Open Book Pop Up Library

Ayala Triangle is a park in the heart of Makati City's main CBD. Ayala Triangle includes the Philippines Stocks Exchange, Mandarin Hotel and a slew of coffee shops and is surrounded by the HSBC Enterprise building, Equitable PCI Tower, Citibank among others.

The real appeal of Ayala Triangle is it's a good place for strolling, jogging and just enjoying lush vegetation while being surrounded by skyscrapers of marvelous architecture.

Today, the thing that caught my eye this time was not the pretty and well-toned joggers in tight workout attires and the imposing buildings but the open book pop up library. Last time I went to Ayala Triangle, it wasn't there. I was killing time so watching pretty joggers is not bad to do while sipping coffee.

My heart skipped in delight that there is such a place where one can bring home a book for free and you can also donate one if you like. We're talking of used books though. The idea is really cool because it will promote reading and sharing (by donating your used books). As I have observed, many people are indeed going to the 4 square meter space ( just my estimate--could be 6). Surprisingly, a lot of expats were actually going there to check out the books.

The first thought that really came toy mind is that it could be a powerful marketing tool. If many people organize this kind of thing, and coordinate with each other, they could easily talk to ad placers. Organizing open book libraries should be easy since a lot of people don't know how to dispose of their old books and are willing to donate. What I'm seeing actually more of a problem is that more people will donate than people will take out books, but that's a good kind of problem.

This is one of the things I like about Ayala-group-run businesses is that they have a progressive mindset unlike purely profit-driven enterprises.
