What a Thursday today, it has turned out to be a quiet day in my offline life. But, too quiet for my taste in my online life. It may seem contradictory, but I like to have a quiet life, however, the fact that some review packages and assignments by email are not arriving is not a very good thing. The less work, the less income, so I have to look to diversify the income to balance the budget. In addition, we have had some extra expenses at home and the bills are not as buoyant as a few weeks ago.

We are not really bad, in fact we are much better off at home than several million of our compatriots, but I guess that every time the living conditions we are used to changing very quickly, it does not sit very well with us. Anyway, let's change the subject. I wanted to share in my daily log a topic about #chocolate. Well, chocolate day is tomorrow, but I found that today there is also a #food celebration that is related.

Today is Chocolate Milkshake Day.

Here, remembering, chocolate is my favorite flavor in everything that can contain it. From candy, ice cream, milkshakes, chocolate bars, and I even remember that there is a recipe for meat in chocolate sauce, but I haven't checked it in a long time. So, in my log today, and tomorrow's, I will focus on this delicious native American vegetable product.

Surely the Cacao growers of Mesoamerica, before the arrival of the Europeans, never imagined that the drink they prepared with this fruit would reach such a large level of diffusion. A pause, before we fall into discussions, I am referring to the arrival of the Spanish to the territory of what is now Mexico, in the 16th century. I know there are arguments that they were not the first Europeans to travel across the Atlantic to our continent. It is even said that long before any European, there were people from Asia who arrived in South America (and perhaps even Central America) long before. But, for now, I am sticking to the official version of history.

Let's leave the discussion of colonizers and travelers, let's get back to the matter of the #milkshake. I would like to go in the narration of history until the year 1883, when William Horlick received patent number 278,967, in which the processes for the production of a powdered food product were registered, whose ingredients were barley malt, wheat flour and milk powder. At that time it was called "Diastoid" (and I swear I don't know, nor understand, the reason for such a name). It was promoted as a food supplement for children, convalescents, and the elderly.

Although, I think we should even go back a decade to mark the true beginning of this invention. That would be when the brothers James and William Horlick founded the company "Horlicks" (Chicago, United States), in 1873. This pair of brothers were from Gloucestershire, (England), and had embarked to America as a land of promise, new beginnings and opportunities, something that is always attractive, whether in that 19th century or our 21st century.

Luckily, the name we know today was not long in being established, so it would be the beginning of Malted Milk, from 1887. By the way, there are some sources that say that the invention of Malted Milk is from 1897, but I think I will stick with the date of the patent, because it is an official source. Well, with the arrival of the 20th century, the advent of electricity, blenders and household appliances, the preparation of drinks from this powder became popular and very early on it became part of the menu of almost any city or even roadside restaurant.

In the menu list, the flavor options for the Milkshakes were quite similar to the list of flavors that were developed for ice cream, highlighting in all cases the vanilla and chocolate flavors. And it is precisely the Chocolate Milkshake that we are celebrating today. In my case, as soon as I publish the post, I am going to the kitchen to prepare one of these to celebrate the day (pure excuses to eat, [personal smile]). Well, I am saying goodbye now, hoping that you are well, that we can read each other again another time, and that chocolate is not missing in your life.
