The holidays that I enjoy during my study in China are always on fixed dates except for the Chinese New Year holidays, which vary one week almost every year. But in the case of other holidays, I get the same days of the year. If I tell you about the two longest holidays of two weeks I get every year, they are the Chinese New Year and the Summer Vacations. The Chinese New Year holidays usually last from the last week of January to the first half of February, which is changed every year as it is a kind of lunar cycle-dependent system.
The summer vacation is a constant one that has some fixed days of the year as the semesters start and end within a fixed period of time. So, every year, my summer vacation consists of the last week of July and the first week of August. So, these 14 days of holidays are fixed in my yearly schedule. Though I am free to visit my country during this time, problems arise with my wife's academic schedule as she is a student, and her university has a different yearly schedule that creates a lot of trouble for us.
The most common problem that we have been facing regarding my wife's final exams is that they are scheduled when I get my holidays, or sometimes the new semester starts when my holidays start. And so, we are unable to make some good travel to some distance except some tight schedules to visit our village home where our parents live as we are currently staying in Dhaka City. And our homes are very far from the city, it takes 6 hours to get to my home and on the other hand it takes 4 hours to get to my wife's home.
This time, my wife still has her final exam, but she will finish her exam tomorrow as with her last exam, and we will have a couple of days free from her tight schedule, and we can have some relaxing days to visit some relatives and places to spend some good time without any trouble. On my last visit, I did not visit my wife's home as we didn't have enough time to maintain her academic schedule. So, this time, we will have enough time to visit my wife's hometown, and hopefully, we will visit some places there.
The second and the most heart-breaking incident is about the holidays, which are always part of the normal work schedules in Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, we have two Eids as the largest celebration, where my friends and almost all of the people of the country visit their homes and parents, which makes the celebration so special. We can all meet with each other during this period, but unfortunately, I couldn't manage the holidays during this celebration season to meet all of my relatives and friends at home as I get my holidays at other times than the Eid celebrations.
For the last four years, I have not celebrated Eid, and I feel very homesick during that time as the holidays are not available at that time of the year. I have a very strict holiday season with limited scope to make it flexible according to the Eid celebration in my home country. When my family members and my friends meet during this holiday season, they always miss me too much, and I also miss them badly. I hope I will get the opportunity to celebrate Eid with my friends and family very soon.
The third thing is that ticket prices during these holidays are often excessively high. As of this time, China has experienced billions of people moving throughout the country, and often, the price of the ticket skyrockets. Especially if the plane has any transit in some cities inside China, then the ticket price during this time increases significantly. However, the direct flights from Beijing to Dhaka are not effective, and the pressure from international students often increases, so the ticket price is often affected by such things.
These are my random thoughts regarding my unfavorable academic schedules and holiday routine. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments, and I will try my best to answer them.
Thanks a lot for your time and attention. I will catch up with you at the next one.
Wish you a great day!
