There is a period in my city, during autumn and winter, when a cold and dry wind blows, known in our country as Košava.
From the movement of the branches under my window, it is clear to me that it still hasn't let up and that this is already the sixth day that it is cooling us down.
When it happens that from the west, from the Mediterranean, we have a field of low air pressure, and from the east, from the Carpathians, a field of high pressure, the conditions are created for a strong east, northeast or southeast, dry and strong wind to descend from the Carpathians to our Pannonian lowland, Košava.
Sometimes it happens that the gusts are hurricane-like (the most common is the city of Vrsac when the wind speeds up to 130 km/h), although the gust blows at an average speed of about 70 km/h.
On its way from the Carpathians, it does not even bypass my city, because it blows along the Danube, and Belgrade, as a city at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, on the border with Banat, is exposed to strong winds.
It is characteristic of košava that it does not blow for just one day. It often happens that it blows for 5, 10, and sometimes 20 days, so people have established the opinion that it can last 3 days, 7 days, 14 days or 21 days, while in fact there are no rules.
We only know that it never lasts just one day, and that when the wind blows, there is no rain.
It blows strongest during the morning hours, and it blows in "waterfalls", which makes it seem that the blows are even stronger.
And when it's winter, the temperature outside is below zero. It is currently -2°C (and the subjective feeling is -9°C). We know that on days like this, snow will put winter in our bones.
Whatever you're wearing, unless it's a diving suit, the skin will penetrate and reach your skin.
In such conditions it is a little more challenging to walk.
But considering that the košava, which has been blowing for days, has dispersed all the pollution from the air, these days are the most beautiful to walk around the city. The air doesn't even smell of exhaust now.
All you need is a good jacket, hat, gloves and something under your pants, unless you want your legs under your jacket after a few minutes the walks are frozen.
I looked out the window...
The wind is still blowing. I looked at the weather forecast. Brrr, cold. I have to dress warmly.
As I walk, I see tree trunks fighting the wind, and one children's playground, which is usually full of children on these devices, is currently empty and the benches are sitting on them because the companions of those children who are playing, their parents, grandparents, but.
It is so cold because of the wind that no one thinks that going out is a good option.
I went out (business obligations) and I share a part of my walk with you in #wednesdaywalk.
I don't have more pictures than these couple, because I couldn't hold the phone in my hands, let alone take any more photos with them.
When spring arrives and it warms up, I will probably walk and photograph some more interesting details, and for the reason of fewer pictures, I told you the story of the strongest Belgrade wind, Košava.
