Happy Wednesday Hivers!
Early morning hikes are one of my father's daily routines. He never lets a day slip away without going out in the morning for a hike, except on the days when he is not feeling well. He will be turning 73 years old this coming June, and we are grateful that he is still strong at his age.
When my niece and I visited my father, I told him that we would be joining him on his early morning hike. I saw the exhilaration painted on his face, and he immediately grabbed his phone and showed us photos of his favorite spot every morning.
Join me as I show you his favorite spot. This is my entry for this week's #wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay.
We woke up at around 4 o'clock in the morning so we could hit the road early. After we fixed ourselves, we found ourselves walking on a paved yet steep road. It was a little bit challenging because of the steep incline. I admired my father's pace, as he was walking faster than me despite the steep hill.
Since it was still early, the morning was calm and quiet. Only a few motorists passed by. Honestly, it was my first time joining him on his hike, and I was mesmerized by the stimulating views of the places he passes by every day. I couldn't blame him for being excited to show us this place, because it's absolutely awesome.
Maghaway is a well-known place surrounded by spectacular views of the mountains. It is one of the favorite places of cyclists. Actually, I saw a few cyclists around. I constantly heard the name of the place from my cousins who frequently go there, but I had never been there until that day.
Chasing the sunrise was not my primary goal that day. I joined him to savor the day, but I was so lucky that day as we had beautiful weather, and I was able to witness the sun rise from the horizon. It was like I was seeing one of the beautiful paintings of a perfectly painted sunrise.
My father told me that this location is going to Sta. Lucia subdivision. It is located in the mountainous part of Talisay City, Cebu. Depending on a person's pace, it takes about an hour to hike from my father's house to here.
While strolling around, my niece and I saw a small children's playground with a mini slide, swing, and monkey bar. I asked my niece if she wanted to try the slide, but she said no because the surface was dirty. However, she did try the monkey bar and she seemed to enjoy it.
There was something that awakened my curiosity, and it was about the old fountain. When I asked my father about the place, I got no answer from him as he himself didn't know the story. I was a little curious about why there's a fountain erected in the middle of the mountain and it's already old. It's like there was a mansion erected here before. This is the usual sight of elite houses with a fountain in front of their luxury house.
Since we could already feel the scorching heat of the sun, although it was still early, we decided to return home. On our way home, I saw many cyclists who were pedaling seriously, with extreme drops of perspiration on their faces. It was late when I realized that it was a holiday, and that was the reason there were many cyclists who came up to the mountain.
We only have rare bonding experiences like this, and I was grateful that we joined him for this hike. I could see the happiness on his face. That was a great walk with my father and niece. Have you gone on a walk with your father recently? If so, how was it?
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
