Running in Newport Beach, CA for my Wednesday "walk"

I have always wanted to go running along our boardwalks at the beaches near us, and just got the chance. It was uncommonly warm for April at the beach, and I am still training for a Ragnar race, so took the opportunity to get a run in during a family beach trip.

We parked near lifeguard shack 13 because it is by a basketball court and a home nearby that has a hose that we use quite often to rinse off after our shenanigans in the sand.

The water was cold enough that I had to take my time getting used to its temperature, but I thought that would be perfect after my run for a quick cooldown- I was wrong, I still had to get used to it. side note- isn't it funny how kids will jump right in, and adults cower at the cold

The boardwalk here is a paved path large enough for bikes and people. It turns out it was about 1.5 miles until it dead ended. Next time, I will start left instead of turning right.

My view of the ocean was actually slightly blocked because of how far back the sand went. I started taking pictures of houses and also some of the artwork at the houses. There are all million dollar+ homes.

I saw various mermaids and driftwood sculptures along the route, as well as many different types of plants.

The homes are not very wide, but they are long and narrow for the most part.

The street signs were nice to help me pace my run.

Another thing about the houses is their uniqueness. When you have $$$$, you can build them to your liking. Wouldn't that be nice?

There are public bathrooms there, and you can see the corrosion from the salty air. This is the bottom of the bathroom stall.

They also have outdoor showers set up in some areas to be able to rinse off. It is maddening how sand gets everywhere- car, between your toes, and under your suit. Showers are amazing. Although most often, we use the neighbor's hose.

All total, I only went about 3 miles, but it was surprisingly tiring-probably because it was in the middle of the afternoon. I usually go in the morning. I did get an amazing nap on my beach towel later, and then I did go in the cold water which felt AMAZING.

It's been amazing, I really miss those days when I went to Beach, unfortunately I did not get any chance to visit due to COVID

All this looks so amazing and fun. I don't remember the last time I went to the beach when it was nice out. Hope you have a great time!

Looks such a beautiful beach and such cool and of course expensive houses
When I was younger a lot younger I used to bike about 3 miles to the beach each morning and then get in a 5 to 8 mile run along the beaches and then get a swim in before riding home even in winter
Mind you back home winters we’re a lot warmer than they are here

But as you say as we get older it gets harder to get in the water we feel the cold so much more I guess

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
