Hazy Wednesday Walk

in #hive-155530last year

Good morning Hiveans! I hope you didn't come here to see pretty pictures because there'll be none today. I took all of today's photos yesterday around 5:30 pm. After work (from home) I wanted to go on a walk. It had been really nice the past week or so but yesterday it had gotten gray and hazily overcast.

It wasn't until I went outside, even though I could already smell it inside the house, that I put one and one together - quite obviously I also hadn't read any news today - hey, I was busy at work!

Have you heard about the massive wildfires in Canada? They are devastating. And they are producing a ton of smoke into the air. And that air is currently flowing south and yesterday it reached the likes of Boston, Cincinnati, New Jersey, and New York City. We were under a pretty severe air quality alert.

During the day I hadn't really noticed because I worked from home and stayed inside. The only thing that gave away something odd happening was the overcast and at the same time somewhat warm lighting, not like in a thunderstorm.

Despite the stink and alert, I went for my walk but I didn't jog. I had a few stops to take photos of that eerie orange ball hanging in the sky. I took them with my phone and the exposure made the sun seem white in most of them, like in the photos above.

But some show the orange, like this photo with the sun hidden behind the trees. That shows the color the sun had much better even though the photo itself is crap. Below it are a couple more.

In the warm grey sky, that kind of orange really looked very eerie. I bet people around NYC got some really crazy shots of this.

And for good measure the neighborhood residential development that I have been sharing photos of in previous Wednesday Walk posts. Looks like it is nearing completion although to the left of the entrance, they'll still have to start on the last house. This is such a dense development - not for me, if I can avoid it.

Have a great rest of your day!

Under different circumstances this would look amazing.
Maybe a stupid question: is it getting cold when sun is covered that much?

I thought that one of the orange sun / sky pictures might make a nice prompt for the #pic1000 freewrite

Valid question. In our case, it was not. It was warm yesterday, mid to upper twenties. Today was a little cooler with the same or worse haze/pollution. Imagine stepping outside your door and there's a campfire - that kind of smell. Normally nice but out of place.

those skies, we here are also under the weather alert with the air quality being so bad, recently it has rained a lot so that hasnt bothered me, but today it looks like it may be sunny, and I am tempted to go for a walk, but with the air quality maybe i shouldnt

I thought that you would relate having the same weather. I hope you did not go out for a walk because - at least here - it was worse today.

NO I was sensible, and stayed in as I checked the air quality maps and was still bad, today should be better here but its still there and apparently could get worse again on Friday

By the looks of it I was hoping to go outside tonight, however, a look at Accuweather still states 'unhealthy'. And even worse than yesterday? Very strange.

same for me, in the morning yesterday the levels were down to moderate but only just so I decided to see what it was like in the afternoon and yes the same as you climbed again into unhealthy and gettign worse

We have been getting smoke all week here in Wisconsin. I dislike spending so much time indoors, but I know my lungs will appreciate it.

Here it started on Tuesday but since then, except for this walk and driving to the office on Wednesday, I haven't been out. I had hoped to go for a jiggy-jog tonight but now I just read that the 'unhealthy' is even worse than yesterday though it looks much better. So... I don't know. Hopefully, they'll get the fires under control soon.

Rain is definitely needed. Take care of your lungs!
