Good morning Hiveans! I hope you didn't come here to see pretty pictures because there'll be none today. I took all of today's photos yesterday around 5:30 pm. After work (from home) I wanted to go on a walk. It had been really nice the past week or so but yesterday it had gotten gray and hazily overcast.
It wasn't until I went outside, even though I could already smell it inside the house, that I put one and one together - quite obviously I also hadn't read any news today - hey, I was busy at work!
Have you heard about the massive wildfires in Canada? They are devastating. And they are producing a ton of smoke into the air. And that air is currently flowing south and yesterday it reached the likes of Boston, Cincinnati, New Jersey, and New York City. We were under a pretty severe air quality alert.
During the day I hadn't really noticed because I worked from home and stayed inside. The only thing that gave away something odd happening was the overcast and at the same time somewhat warm lighting, not like in a thunderstorm.
Despite the stink and alert, I went for my walk but I didn't jog. I had a few stops to take photos of that eerie orange ball hanging in the sky. I took them with my phone and the exposure made the sun seem white in most of them, like in the photos above.
But some show the orange, like this photo with the sun hidden behind the trees. That shows the color the sun had much better even though the photo itself is crap. Below it are a couple more.
In the warm grey sky, that kind of orange really looked very eerie. I bet people around NYC got some really crazy shots of this.
And for good measure the neighborhood residential development that I have been sharing photos of in previous Wednesday Walk posts. Looks like it is nearing completion although to the left of the entrance, they'll still have to start on the last house. This is such a dense development - not for me, if I can avoid it.
Have a great rest of your day!
Cheers,
