Double Wednesday Walk! .:. Alicante, Spain

in #hive-1555306 months ago

This is the "freshest", the most real, #WednesdayWalk! I took it today, and it can't be more authentic than this... Tbh, I hesitated to take photos during the walk, but in the end, I don't regret doing it! The day didn't begin well as I got up with a headache that I didn't want to pass and we had to do a short trip to Alicante, where our son had an access test for University... My wife was his accompanist on piano, so we all went on this trip... Firstly, he had a theory exam which he did alone, so my wife and I took a short walk around the castle that was near the University... After that, she went to follow our son's playing on violin and I went to the second part of the #WednesdayWalk...

01.jpg

As she took photos of the castle, I didn't take any of those... As my son was 5th to play, I had more than an hour for the second part of the walk... So I took a larger area to walk... :)

You know that football (soccer) is the most important sport in Spain, and even the smallest villages have some kind of football pitch... Alicante is a bigger city and it does have more than 1 club, but somehow, they don't play in the highest league... The competition is fierce and, despite having a lot of fans and a football school, you still have to battle with others to get into the first league...

Jose Rico Perez football stadium was the first thing on my route and an official (fan) store... To be honest, I didn't even know the club's name before this visit... As you can see, the official colors are blue and white, which are the choice of a couple of teams in Spain...

I was walking very close to the stadium, and I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with how it looked... Most of the entrances looked abandoned, which shows how much are those "weaker" teams struggling... When you reach "La Liga", you don't have these issues as most of the money goes there... But, to get there, you have to make a huge effort and probably huge investments...

The next building that caught my attention was the Insitute of Geography and Statistics. It was built in 1914, but it was restored 10-12 years ago...

14.jpg

15.jpg

Of course, like any other big city, Alicante isn't different regarding street art... Some of this graffiti is great looking, while some others are just garbage...

16.jpg

This building in the back is Auditorium where most of the cultural events are happening... You can check out the web address from the photo under if you want to find out more about the program...

Along with having great beaches, and an awesome national football team, one of the most important things about Spain is the Spanish Corrida... I know that the whole concept of bullfighting is very controversial, but it is one of the oldest traditions in Spain... All bigger cities in Spain have at least one Plaza de Toros where these events take place... In some cities, bullfighting is prohibited, but in others, you can still watch them...

25.jpg

I have no idea about the different types of bullfighting that exist, but if you do, you can check out the June schedule, or the official website for more details... :)

26.jpg

27.jpg

How to find the city center in any Spanish place? You have to search for the Cathedral or the biggest church and there you are... On the other side, as bullfighting was ultra-popular in Spain, places around the "bullring" were full of important buildings, sculptures, and probably the place of living for wealthy people...

So, this place is perfect for this great sculpture by Ignacio Martín, which has been done in real dimensions! I saw some comments on Google that aren't worth seeing, but it's an artwork and it's done well if you ask me!

While I was on my way back, I bumped into a couple of nicely painted garage doors... Besides things that I mentioned, Spaniards also like speed, which includes not just cars, but also motorcycles too! This was just an "ordinary" garage door...

35.jpg

36.jpg

...while these were painted blinds of a Motors shop...

A few steps more, unfortunately climbing up the hill, and I'm almost back to the place where I parked my car...

The exam was over, and it was time to go back home... I hope you enjoyed this walk around this part of Alicante... I wasn't before in that area, so I did enjoy it a lot!

Thank you for your time.

Great walk👌

We had a fantastic show today, probably one of the best "freestyle shows"... I will try to prepare a good written recap as we had a great discussion... ;)

Thanks for checking out the Alicante walk!

Getting funded is about going into the big leagues but sadly not every team is able to make that happen so some teams just have to take what they get.

These are really great photos all round.

Agree about funding, but in Spain, you can find some teams from much smaller cities than Alicante in the first league, which just shows that sponsors are those who "move things"...

These are really great photos all round.

Thanks!!!

Sure sponsors are those game changers. And they would also want to sponsor those who are going to yield good returns I guess, so it's only the best of the best that gets to be picked from the ton.

Thank you for the pictures! The place is so clean and the graffiti they are just so beautiful to looked at.

You are welcome! Tbh, that part of Alicante is "the ugly part", as, besides the thing that I photographed, the rest are residential buildings (not pretty at all... lol), without any park, or green areas...

Another piece of Spain that I know thanks to the Wednesday walks of you two. Thanks for sharing and many good vibes for your son, he will surely be accepted in both academies where he applied, so he can choose. Greetings.

Thank you! We will see soon what happens with his applications... In 2-3 days, we should know the results... :)

I am against such customs, however it is somewhat popular and has tourist attraction.

Yeah, I agree with you... I do understand the traditional point of view, but the whole bullfighting is cruel and makes no sense for the present time...

It looks like an interesting walk and you made good time of the free time you had in between. Football (Soccer) isn't as big in the US so it always surprises me a bit.

Some prefer to sleep in the car when waiting for others, I like to walk around... 😂

I really like how you captured both the beauty and challenges of smaller football clubs, it's a true reflection of community resilience. What a lovely area though, nice walk brother

What's interesting is that the area where I took that walk is probably one of the ugly ones... :) 🙂

Wow really, then the nice ones would be like Heaven

Omg the bulls are so realistic!! Impressive artwork!! Nice walk, I learned more about Alicante thanks to this post.

Yeah, that sculpture was impressive... Probably because it is done in the real measurements...

Wow that's a whole lot of photos!!! I see so many artsy stuff, interesting share!

Thanks! Yeah, I missed a couple of graffiti on that walk, but it would be too much... lol... This was already too many photos... 😃

It seems like you are having a goos walk around the city. you said it right, the lower league get a lot less exposure than the top one, which is kind of sad to see, as it is also part of the ladder that they have to go through, I think it is happening almost everywhere.

The sculpture is a spot to visit, I guess the one who make the google review has a different art tase. !LOLZ

Yeah, but the difference in income is stunning! But, that also happens with regular jobs and different professions... The gap between rich and poor is getting bigger, and the middle class is disappearing... :(

Thanks for the visit!

Very nice walk and a whole lot you showed us. Good to see traditions and past times like the bull fighting (neat statues) and football things such as displays and stadium. I really liked the paintings on the garage doors. Thanks for sharing and what I good way to pass some time 😊 Look forward to yesterdays show write up!

I like when I take these unplanned walks and just stroll around certain parts of the city or nature... Take photos of everything that is interesting and later on, explore what it was on the Internet... 😂 I know that I probably miss certain things, but the element of surprise is great :)

Congratulations @ph1102! You received the biggest smile and some love from TravelFeed! Keep up the amazing blog. 😍 Your post was also chosen as top pick of the day and is now featured on the TravelFeed front page.
