Today, I am on a street tour in the north of Dhaka City. The street is Sonargoan Road, one of the busiest in this part of the City. You can find almost all of the renowned banks' branches and all the popular food chains on this street. Though the street has no public transport like buses, the road is filled with thousands of Rickshaws, which are one of the most used transport for the middle class and lower middle class and even the lower class people, who cover more than 90% of the population of Dhaka City.
My wife and I went to a famous shopping tower known as the ZAMZAM TOWER, which is famous for buying quality products. We had planned to buy some jewellery, but unfortunately, the shopping centre has a weekly closing day on Wednesday. I didn't know about it, and my wife forgot about the date. So, both of us have a great walking session around the area. We found some street foods and tried some of them, which is my favorite. But we had our planned dinner in another restaurant on which I will write another blog in coming days.
It was evening, so the time is one of the peak hours of the day when many people return to their homes, and many people come out for their shopping and enjoy their evening snacks with friends and family members. The air quality of Dhaka City always makes me feel bad with too much dust. Though in the night vibes, it is not clearly visible, but it is really severe here.
After walking for more than half an hour, we found a winter snacks shop that sells many kinds of winter snacks, including some fried steamed and cooked items, which are known as "Pitha" in our own language. we have tried some of them but I liked the 'Chitoi Pitha' which is a beakd item and made of rice flour and enjoyed with a lot of kind of 'Vorta'. One of my favorite vorta is the 'Shutki vorta', which is a kind of vorta made of mashed dried fish with a lot of spices. This vorta is the spiceiest vorta among all kinds of vorta.
I have seen a river which is almost dried in this winter but the dark color of the water reflects the level of pollution of the river water. Almost all the canals and rivers in Dhaka city are really heavily polluted. The large population the ignorance of the people and the inefficiency of the government led to severe pollution of the water of these water bodies.
I hope you like my Wednesday walking in Dhaka Street and the collections of the street foods here to enjoy your evening walking around the city. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments, and I will try my best to answer them.
Thanks a lot for your time and attention. I will catch up with you at the next one.
Wish you a great day!
