The day was warm and sunny, so I decided to go for a walk in the park of the Forestry Academy. This institution of higher education was originally located in Tsarskoye Selo, but in the beginning of the XIX century it was decided to move the Academy to St. Petersburg. The move took place in 1811. The educational and residential buildings were surrounded by a huge park.
At the beginning of the XIX century beyond the boundary of this park of the Forestry Academy there was a rural area. Nowadays, beyond the boundaries of the park there are usual urban areas built up with multi-storey residential buildings, but during a walk through the park it is easy to mentally transport oneself to a hundred or two years ago. Wooden buildings were built as residential houses for the teaching staff in the first half of the XIX century. Some of them were rebuilt later, others have retained their appearance almost unchanged.
I walked past the old wooden buildings and came to a constructivist building built in the 1930s. Now this building houses the Admissions Office. From afar, this building seems rather ordinary. But if you look closely at the walls, you will notice a lot of interesting details.
From the wooden bridge, I turned onto a path along the pond. The park of the Forestry Academy serves not just as a walking green space, it is also the institute's training ground. The variety of tree species in this park is truly unique. Part of the park is inaccessible to outsiders, as it is a botanical garden. But the open part of the park is also quite large, and a walk along the alleys is a great pleasure.
I had already finished my walk through the park and was walking leisurely towards the metro when I noticed a building with interesting architecture behind the trees of a small garden. I went closer to take a closer look at it and take some photos.
At home I looked up information about the building on the internet. It is a manor house, it was a place for summer holidays. The existing building is not historical, it is the result of reconstruction, but the plot of land and the garden have an interesting history. The garden and the manor house are called the Lansky Dacha in honour of its first owners, Count Lansky.
