Wednesday Walk Slocum River reserve

This post if for Wednesday walk challenge And Make me Smile Collaboration challenge, initially our collaboration was once a month but due to the popularity of it we have decided to make the collab a weekly thing :)

Any questions about the challenge read the guide at the Bottom of the post ;)

Todays walk is one I took recently, around 8Am on a day where it was foggy and overcast so I skipped heading out for a sunrise walk, and this day I visited the Slocum River Reserve

there is a small car Park at the entrance to this trail, many of the other trails around here do not have parking and you have to park on the side of the road, and some of the entrances including this one have only small signs back from the road so there easy to miss if your not looking for them.
Starting off walking into the reserve after parking my car

its a beautiful area for a hike,

The Slocum’s River Reserve, which protects more than 3,000 feet of frontage along the Slocum’s River, includes mature woodlands, agricultural fields, and pastures that slope down to the western bank of the Slocum’s River. The Reserve has 2 miles of walking trails and is jointly owned and managed by the Trustees of Reservations and Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust.

A little bit about the DNRT
This reserve is one managed by the Dartmouth Natural Resources trust, a group that formed back in 1971 when a group of residents banded together to try and protect the Star of the sea Property and has slowly grown to managed many trails around Dartmouth.

MISSION
To preserve and protect Dartmouth’s natural resources for people and nature, forever.

How We Work

DNRT works to accomplish its mission by:

Land Acquisition and Protection. Identifying and preserving important wildlife habitats, farmlands, historic sites, wetlands, and open spaces in Dartmouth by purchasing or accepting donations of land and conservation restrictions.
Land Management. Protecting our lands through stewardship practices based in science and designed to maintain the working landscape and enhance biodiversity and healthy ecological systems while encouraging public access.
Outreach. Educating and engaging all sectors of the community to ensure the long-term support for natural resource conservation and stewardship.
Partnerships. Collaborating with other organizations to accomplish our land conservation, land management, and outreach goals.

Further along the walk in, I love when I come across these old stone walls

As you can see the morning i took this walk it was foggy and overcast, perhaps not ideal for taking photos, but the fresh air and smells of nature was wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed this walk.
Along the trail I saw a view of the river through the trees

The rain earlier and the misty fog made the greens really rich which I did love on this walk

Weekly giveaway of shares

This week I am sending to the following who joined Wednesday Walk, for this week I did a random draw and the following each received some Hive @tydynrain, @jayna, @pablo1601, @apnigrich, @coquicoin, @shaunf

And @elizacheng will send to @petra67

As @elizacheng and I collaborated with our Wednesday Walk and Make me Smile Challenges

And one person is randomly drawn who joins both challenges to receive one Hive from me and this week it is @TBA

Wednesday Walk is a challenge started by me, the idea is to get out for a short walk and get some shots of what you can see within a short distance of your home office or wherever you start. And this is my entry for this week, but first, let me explain the challenge.

This is my post for the Wednesday Walk challenge hosted by myself, let me first explain the guidelines

Try and get out once a week for a short walk, can be from your office, home or anywhere really and walk for a few blocks or a few minutes looking for things to get shots of.

Your walk does not have to be on a Wednesday I just ask if possible to share your walk photos on a Wednesday.

Try and get a few shots not just one

Add a bit of a write up about where you walked

Just one Wednesday Walk tagged post a week

You can look for anything in general or decide on one subject you want to get shots off.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss

Do a post with the shots you get on a Wednesday and tag it with #wednesdaywalk, also if you happen to join, please leave a link to your post in a comment on this post and I will try and visit them all, especially if its not one of the first 5 tags or I may miss seeing it .

Following me and re-Hiving the post so more see it would be appreciated but isn't a rule just a suggestion.

I am not strict on these rules and hence why they are called guidelines and not rules

I will try and visit, and upvote all who take part in the Wednesday Walk.

Make me Smile Collaboration

As I mentioned above Wednesday Walk is collaborating with the [Make Me Smile] hosted by @elizacheng,

Here are the rules for her challenge

Your post can be writing, singing, video, poem, drawing, photography etc.... the most important part is your post Make me" smile, Remember, the ME is whoever read/view/listen to your post and this includes YOURSELF.
b. Your content must be ORIGINAL CONTENT
c. Please include at least 50 Words in your post

I hope a few of you may find this an interesting challenge and decide to join in.

unless stated otherwise all photos used in my posts are taken and owned by myself, if you wish to use any of my images please contact me.

Sort:

I like those boulders used for barriers. Very neat looking.

The nice thing about an overcast, cloudy, semi-foggy day is that the light is dispersed and not harsh. It can definitely help take some nice photos.

I love them and the rock walls as well I saw some more this morning on another trail I checked out, and your right the fog filtered the light and gave some really nice shots, today was clear and will be interesting to see how those photos come out

Thank you so much dear @tattoodjay!

Welcome @tattoodjay to meet again in the Wednesday walk community, hope you are healthy. Nice beautiful scenery the weather seems to have just rained must be fresh air. Thank you very much.

good morning, yes it had bene raining up to maybe half an hour before I took this walk, made the trail slippery but brought out the fresh natural colors

Looks like a beautiful walk. So green and such a pretty trail with the woodlands and the stone walls. There is a book "Sermons in Stone: The stone walls of New England and New York" I have recently heard about. I looked for it in a book store yesterday. I'm going to find a copy. I hear it is very interesting history.

It was indeed a beautiful walk so fresh and serene

I think I have read that book, I bought it just after I moved to NYC, its a great book from what I remember, I wonder what happened to my copy

Have a great day

hello dear friend @tattoodjay good day
I really like this place you have chosen to walk; A really very beautiful reserve
I appreciate that you let us know these beautiful images and all their information
have a beautiful day

Thanks so much, My wife has been sleeping in later than she used to so I have made it a habit of recent to go out a bit later after sunrise and checking out some of the trails here, I just visited another one this morning

Have a great day

It's a wonderful walk. Sunny weather is great, but quiet foggy days are also very nice. They are conducive to a quiet, leisurely walk, and your lungs enjoy the clean, washed air.

Thanks, I have bene checking out a few of the trails here over the last couple of weeks, did another one this morning wasnt foggy this morning but still a nice walk

I so could imagine the smells and the crisp morning… just by looking at your photographs, and as I have been in places just like that before hahaha 😎

Nice to read up about that, what they do. Such a good cause.
Beautiful Photographs. Love the green all around you. It sure was worth the walk, misty and wet.
Thanks for sharing 😁

My post for today : “The Cliffs and ravines of Malta” ~ walk along the coast at Miġra l-Ferħa, Malta 🇲🇹

Ohh yeah the smells made this walk so special, its great they have lots of trails here, I just got back from walking another one this morning, was a longer trail, a good walk but so beautiful

I will check out your post shortly

I like trails like that… they do keep them nice and are more easier to find than here in Spain.
Sounds like a super morning 😊

Thank you kindly 😁👋🏻

When we moved here after i retired I had no idea that there were lots of trails here, I am happy to have find them I find it so relaxing walking these trails

That’s nice to hear… do enjoy them @tattoodjay 😁
It is relaxing and so good for the health, just being out in nature.

Ohh I am loving them, I am slowly working through exploring all the reserves and trails, some of the reserves just have one trail, other slike the one I visited yesterday have many trails, I think close to 9 miles of trails in the one I went to yesterday, so no doubt i will visit that one a couple of times to explore all the trails

That’s just wonderful to hear @tattoodjay 😁
Have you visited the west of the state yet? I mean not the centre, but the Berkshires. And all the trails there. The forests… the towns.
Curious to know your opinion on that part of Mass. 😉

Thanks and NO I haven't made it tot hat area yet, with my wifes health issues I dont like going to far from home, when she is feeling better we may explore that area and then I will let you know

Those pictures are really great. Even though I know they are from the US, there is something very English countryside about them. I feel like they could be a trail that @steevc runs down each morning. Very beautiful!

Thanks, Ohh yes I feel the same that these trails could be in England, or more so New Zealand, especially with all the ferns and beautiful fresh greens, I walked another one this morning, and it did really give me the feeling of some trails I walked back in NZ

A lovely path through a gorgeous woodland - beautiful area and images, JJ, and the fog makes the photos even better. I love such walks - great post ☺️

All my pleasure, JJ, and forest walks are a nice change to the beach walks, especially now in Spring when everything's fresh growing.

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)
!invest_vote

OHh yes and I have timed the walks after overnight rain, the colors of nature really come out so beautifully

I have bene known to Enjoy a !PIZZA and a !BEER or two for lunch on occassion

!invest_vote

That's true, after the rain the colours are much more intense - I wonder how they will look tomorrow because it's raining here 🌧️

Well, and I have been known to enjoy a !BEER or two for lunch even without a !PIZZA 🤣
!invest_vote

I think the rain is a plus but in spring the colors are the best

Now you may enjoy a !BEER or two with !PIZZA for lunch, my wife prefers !WINE

I love the woods. Seeing this just reminded me of snow white on her way to the dwarfs' house. She ran off into the woods.

I don't think I can come here at night by the way. Theses woods will like ghosts to me

Thanks for your visit, I to love the woods , I hadn't thought of Snow white but I can see how that comes to mind, now I will be looking for her when I take other walks on the trails here

I dont think I would walk them at night either not because of ghosts but some of the trails can be slippery and wouldnt be a good idea doing them in the dark

The fog makes the place looks so mysterious. I am not sure whether you are taking this walk alone. But I will be a bit scared if I am alone.

It did add a Mysterious surreal feel but I was quite safe I was alone and didnt feel worried at all

So much so I took a walk on a different trail this morning

Such a beautiful walk with nature, could almost feel the fresh air!

thanks and indeed the air was so fresh and refreshing

Excelentes fotos amigo @tattoodjay, solo verlas se puede sentir la energía de la naturaleza y el aire fresco

What a lovely walk, @tattoodjay !
Sometimes walks like this is renewing,
particularly with the sad news of those school children!
Slocum River Reserve is truly beautiful with natural wonders.

Ohh yes such terrible news what happenned in that school, its shocking that these horrific events keep happening so often far to often

a walk in the woods helps calmed me down in fact for that reason I walked on another trail this morning

Hi, there! How are you? It's a beautiful area for a hike, indeed. And maybe foggy is not always the ideal thing to photograph. But in this case, I love the air it has given to the photos. And you are right. The greens look deeper.
I hope you are having a good Wednesday. And thank you very much for the Hive from last week:)
Cheers! 😄

HI I am doing good thanks, my day is going well I got a walk on another trail here to start the day that always makes a good day for me

Walking a trail is always a good start to a day. Cheers :)

absolutely ;)

Thank you very much, @tattoodjay.

You had a great walk. I especially liked the stones along the path!

Most welcome,
and I to love the stone walls, they have them on a few trails here, I came across some more on a walk this morning

Absolutely beautiful pictures from your walk, that looks like a wonderful place to have a private walk. I wonder how old the stone walls are, clearly someone didn't want encroachment on their private land, so they set the rock walls up. Thank you for sharing JJ and enjoy an amazing Thursday ahead :}

thanks so much I have been having fun exploring some of the trails here, there are these stones walls on many of them, I to think it probably border walls for private properties at some stage

Thanks for sharing your link such an interesting post ;)

Many thanks to you @tattoodjay for keeping such a nice challenge alive!

Totally my pleasure to host the Wednesday Walk 👍

@tattoodjay you have taken such steps during your walk! That is wonderful! I love this, thank you for sharing your walk with us. This is an exceptional post, my friend.

Thanks I have bene enjoying exploring some of the trails here of recent so beautiful and refreshing

These are such scrumptious pictures, @tattoodjay. I love protected areas. It's so amazing that intelligent groups over time have realized how critical it is to preserve wild spaces and leave areas undeveloped. It makes such an enormous difference for the planet, for ecosystems, and for the importance of having quiet places to walk and reflect and calm the mind!

Here is my Wednesday Walk post for this week: https://peakd.com/hive-193552/@jayna/actifit-jayna-20220526t050517359z

Thanks so much and yes its great when people come together to do what they can to protect the natural beauty of nature and help our eco system and planet

I am off to visit your post now

lovely and lush surroundings.... looks like the united kingdom in winter.

i did not know sony is a camera brand? i use a canon but it is pretty heavy to carry around so mostly just snap with my samsung s20 which has an excellent point and shoot camera.

I love that wall! It seems like an area where wildlife would thrive! Good on you for braving the fog, rain and cold dude!

Actually it wasnt that cold at all that morning just foggy, I did hear some animals moving and may have glimpsed a deer in the distance but not able to get photos of any wildlife

Very beautiful nature reserve
Best wishes from Ukraine 💙💛
Have a good day!

Thanks it is such a beautiful trail

Wishing you and your country people all the best and for this wear to end soon

I really love woodland walks! The path is so inviting and I really liked the slight misty look in the background. Your barren trail has taken on the lush fullness of spring, where the colors are so bright that I have to desaturate some of my pictures. I know, right? Taking the brilliance out of Mother Nature. I had to especially do that with the tulips.

Admittedly, one of the things I miss most is stone walls everywhere. I had a stone wall at my house growing up and although they use some in Virginia, it is not a real thing in the South. But, the ones you show are wonderful and it seems like someone took their time placing the stones, although I know that isn't probably true. They were a working fence. Sorry, I didn't get out for a walk this week, I have not been walking for a couple of weeks, but, I will be getting back out there.

As usual, a great walk for Wednesday!

Have a great night!

I to love walking in these reserves and exploring the trails, the DNRT has done such an amazing job opening up many reserves and trails, I am trying to visit all of them while the weather is so nice

and yes sometimes nature is so vibrant I to have had to tone it down a little in edit, especially if the walks are just after rain

I love the stone walls I saw even more of them on a trail I took yesterday morning there was so many of them, can you imagine the time spent finding just the right rocks to fit them together to build the walls

NO need to say Sorry, when life and the crazy schedule allows you to enjoy aa walk great iof not just stay positive and healthy my friend

The ones they have here are not the same as in New England. Isn't that funny? How can a stone wall look different, and yet it does.

It has been crazy busy and I feel so far behind. But, I am slowing down today and giving myself time to breathe.

I hope you have some great Memorial Day plans!

funny but cool how a simple thing like a rock wall can be so different from one area to another

glad you took some time to slow down and breather

we have the Grandkids for Memorial Weekend as the parents are heading away for a wedding and then some time in NEw Hampshire, they will keep us busy but were looking forward to it

That should be fun for you and them. Enjoy your time with them. I am sure Lulu is in her element.

This was such a great move for you two.

OHh yes moving here worked out so well, plenty of time with the Grandkids and so much nice scenery here

I really like this topic. I am with you.

thanks
Have a great day

Here's my post! I edited it a bit to make it easier to follow and so it flows better. 🙏 💚

thanks for sharing the link here

Indeed! My pleasure. I wanted to edit it this morning more before I posted the link here. 🙏 💚

A little difference today, from your usual walks by the water... :) and I love the countryside too!
Wonderful atmosphere!!

OHh yes, a big change from my normal walks, that said of recent I have tried some days heading out after sunrise when the light was good and taking a walk through some spots I have haven't been to before, there are lots of trails around where so there may be more posts like this, in fact I visited one this morning

I wish we had trails like that here... as well as scenes and temperatures especially.... sigh! Well, looking forward to more trail walks from you soon... 😉

I am lucky to have found these trails here I didnt know they were here when we moved
