Isn't it great when you think that you are going to have the most boring day and it turns out to be an amazing excursion out of nowhere? This happened a few days ago. I had two appointments on the same day, one early in the morning and one late in the afternoon, both in the same city about 45km from our village. And I had no idea what to do in the meanwhile in a city that gets too hot to do anything during daytime :)
Everything changed when @fotostef and Markos, our canine companion, decided to join me and wander around together without any specific plan.
If you wonder how Markos looks when he understands that we are getting ready to go and there is big chance he is coming with us, below is the answer. Eyes concentrated to the target (us) and an attitude of there is no better dog than me, I am going to be an angel!
When we got to the city and after the first appointment, a nice breeze and some clouds on the sky contributed to the decision that going a bit further could be nice. And this way, we visited Elounda and Plaka, super famous touristic destinations of the area. We had a nice swim in the sea and then we took the way up to the mountain to avoid the hordes of tourists.
The place is wonderful on its own as you can see from the view from above. Crystal clear waters and the wildness of the Cretan landscape.
I should mention that this is a place for wealthy tourists, not a place that someone can easily afford. The best beaches are now private and luxurious villas with pools and tennis courts pop up. As well as ugly huge resorts. And they are still building more...
The main attraction is this small island that you can visit by boat. This settlement was used as a leper colony, the island of the living dead. I find it very sad, so I've never been there...
Looking for some adventure we hit the road, but which way? While I was taking photos of the amazing view, @fotostef, who hates google maps, was studying the real map :)
The view was amazing! With the clouds and their shadows constantly moving, it was changing all the time.
Then we visited a small village, Fourni, and I fell in love!
Narrow streets...
Proofs of life...
Old charming houses :)
Nice taverns...
And wells everywhere, in and out of the village. An impressive fact for the area. Here everything is green and the plants are thriving!
Windmills just outside the village.
And the green of the gardens was enviable :)
It's always the details that steal my heart :)
The view as we were heading back to the city for my evening appointment was not bad either :)
Sometimes you can choose whether you will have a miserable or an awesome day, and that was an amazing one!
This is my #wednesdaywalk contribution for the wonderful challenge by @tattoodjay!
Happy walks everyone!
