Sketch of a lady with a cat
I often have a storyline of a character when I begin sketching. Having been missing my old dear sweet Ginger cat, I couldn't help but include such a pet in my latest piece.
watercolor wash made to consider colors
I knew my figure needed to be ginger, like her good feline chum. And my own obsession with plants and flowers needed a representation as well, thus a lovely lady, with her ginger cat and flowers in her hair.
Pastel, chalk and digital oil for the final piece
And I'm rather happy with the outcome. I love the giving the most detail to the eyes. There is something that draws one in when the eyes are the most detailed in the final piece.
As a wall decal, it makes a pretty bold statement.
I think the piece looks pretty good on various home goods like pillows and coasters of course,
but there is something about the large scale wall decal that always impresses me. I'm always excited when I see my art sold in that format, the large scale. I also wonder if my large bright animal series, when they sell this way, go on children's rooms or nurseries or if they adorn a bold bright City apartment.
I just really enjoyed making this piece. Following my Art Resolution this year of painting and making what inspires me at the moment has me making many more oil and pastel pieces. Whether I am doing it digitally or fussing about with linseed oil in the studio, I'm really loving it so far.
I hope you find a moment in your day to indulge in your own passions and that 2023 is turning out to be a good year for you thus far.
