Chess is a game that's quite ancient. Been used in days of wars for kings to help build their strategies, a noble past time, and even a commoners game to help ascertain wit and skill.
Since it's first appearance in the history ancient India in the 6th century, till its spread to Persia, Spain, Europe and America in the 18th century and even till now, the love for this simple and complex game hasn't dimmed but instead gotten even brighter.
My love for chess is way more recent than most, about three years ago back in my secondary school hostel days.
I had always been a Scrabble fan, the one game that is the almost opposite of chess and -I choose to think- the one which most chess players have a specific disdain for😂.

That very day though, an afternoon of incredible heat and absolute boredom.
A friend of mine had invited me for a game, having found a chess set in the pile of toys from the hostel masters room.
My elder sister could play chess, and I had a brief understanding of the rules due to numerous times I was forced to play -and be ruthlessly beaten- with her. The lad who invited me to play had just recently learned the rules and was eager to try the game.
In my defense, at that time, my tries at falling asleep were unproductive and I had nothing better to do, plus he offered to help me to a servings of his provisions if I played and won him.
I did, and the cereal tasted great but the feeling of winning felt better 😂✨.
Since then my love for chess grew to unfathomable heights. The one time meet up because of boredom, heat and food became a regular occurrence.
With both of us playing, winning, losing and learning.
He was a fast learner and soon started beating me more frequently than I wanted 😂.
After I graduated from school, the thrill of playing chess dimmed but didn't die.
Downloaded a few apps and still got it, me and my friend still talk and occasionally play online.
Last time we played is probably a year ago now.
A few months ago, I found out about this community and decided that I would join it whenever I'm ready.
This semester, I found another friend who started learning chess and invited me to a game.
It felt like deja Vu (without the prospect of food if I won), I won him though with the same move I used to win my friend back in that hot afternoon.
He came again and just like that another game.
So far we're about seven who play against each other occasionally when we aren't fighting for our lives in our crazy course of study😂
I took the liberty of downloading the chance they were using and just yesterday, after subscribing to this community, did I realize that it's the same app that most, if not all, are using on here.

So with that, I'm making these few ramblings of mine to successfully introduce myself to the hive chess community and come onto the board of international friendly -maybe competitive with some time- play.
I have already played some few games on lichess against other players and I'm terribly aware of how average I am😂😂
Still figuring the app out but I did manage to make a recording of my latest win.
Made a few mistakes but a win is a win...
and it was clear I had him on the ropes 😂

Although it's from last month, it's something I promised myself I'd write about.
