Hello everyone, @theanimerealm, my friends @tegoshei and @ibet. How're you all doing? It really has been such a long time since I've written my post. I've been through ups and downs and have been really busy with my education, as my final year required more work from me—from my final project to reading my books and my personal career as a machine learning engineer. Well, I came, I saw, and I conquered! I'm now done with school, and I'm happy to tell everyone that I graduated with a first class. So that's that about that.
Seeing this month's contest is about sports anime, which is definitely not my strong suit, I can count the number of sports anime that I've watched, which is not much. I know Blue Lock, Kuroko no Basket, and others that are mainstream, but I want to bring something different. So I kept thinking. I remembered that there was a time, maybe around two years ago, when I was randomly watching anime just for the fun of it. (At that time, I didn't watch anime based on recommendations; I just downloaded and watched.) During that time, I came across this anime, SK8 the Infinity, which was actually interesting to watch. Anyway, let's get right to it.
SK8 the Infinity is about a group of skaters who often race in a secret and off-the-road competition known as 'S' racing, where they race each other on skateboards down a rough road to get to the finish line. In the competition, there's something called 'Beefs,' where participants face off against each other and form rivalries, which is often interesting.
The anime introduces the protagonist named Reki, a high school student who loves skating. He invites a transfer student named Langa into the 'S' racing competition, where Langa finds himself fully immersed and dragged into the flow. Originally, Langa didn’t know how to skate but ended up becoming very good at it. Due to that, Langa quickly gained fame in the competition, and the fame affected their friendship a little. Along the way, the two friends bonded well as they underwent different situations, which served as a test of their friendship as the story went on.
Though I have little idea about skateboarding (maybe none), you know what I always say about sports anime: their techniques and skills often digress from real-world techniques, and they often tend to overdo them. At first, it seemed like the skating techniques used were actually realistic, but as the scenes progressed, the competition became more intense, and the techniques started to feel unrealistic to me. Though it was cool and I enjoyed it, it was still unrealistic.
To be honest, I wanted to see more of Reki. At the start of the anime, the story really focused on Reki, as he dedicated his whole life to skating, but as the story progressed, the focus shifted to Langa, and for almost the entire anime, it was centered on him.
However, the writer did surprise me. At some point in the anime, there was a race between Reki and Adam, where they had to face off against each other. It was arguably one of the most interesting races in the anime (well, besides the race between Adam and Langa, which was the best).
Talking about the animations (my favorite part), the animation was indeed incredible. Overall, it was good, but my favorite part was during the skating races, which were packed with different stunts, twists, and turns that were truly beautiful.
The environment in the anime was indeed two-faced. In the morning, different people went about their daily lives, including the protagonists, who are students, and at night, the scenery changed to a fearful, ghetto-like environment filled with secrecy, where people revealed who they really were. It was fascinating to watch.
At the end of the anime, I was actually happy because it ended well. At this stage, there’s no need for a second season, but I wouldn’t mind if there was one.
In conclusion, I loved the plot, the storyline, and the animations. Though the skating techniques could’ve been more realistic, it’s still enjoyable to watch. With this, I give it a 7/10.
Thanks for reading my post. See you in my next post. Bye 👋
