Today I want to talk to you about a great anime series, which gave a lot to talk about when it was released, there were very positive comments, but also negative comments, and well, here you will know my opinion about it...

It is about: Beastars, an anime that puts us in a world full of anthropomorphic animals, where herbivores and carnivores coexist (or at least they try to) in harmony, all living in a complex society, and full of many nuances. At first glance, this premise may be quite familiar to you, since the “technique” of humanizing animals has been well known, for many years we have been presented with various productions with animals as protagonists, and even Disney replicated and perfected this formula, giving us an incredible movie, which was: Zootopia.

I consider that this specific work is the one that could be the most similar to this anime, but at the same time it is very, very different. This series presents us with a very deep narrative, and extremely complex characters, it manages to address issues that could be considered as controversial, in a very crude way. It becomes a raw and honest reflection of our own society today. The main story revolves around Cherryton Academy, an educational center where herbivorous and carnivorous students coexist, but where the tensions and prejudices that exist are very noticeable.

In all this context, an event happens that shakes the whole academy, and the whole city: the murder of an alpaca, a student of that institution. Undoubtedly, this generates waves of suspicions and fears, testing the fragile harmony in which the academy and society were sustained.

Hoy quiero hablarles de una genial serie anime, que dio mucho de que hablar al momento de estrenarse, hubo comentarios muy positivos, pero también comentarios negativos, y bueno, aquí conocerán mi opinión al respecto..

Se trata de: Beastars, un anime que nos mete en un mundo lleno de animales antropomorfos, donde herbívoros y carnívoros conviven (o por lo menos eso intentan) en armonía, viviendo todos en una sociedad compleja, y llena de muchas matices. A primera vista, esta premisa te puede ser bastante familiar, ya que la “técnica” de humanizar animales ha sido muy conocida, desde hace muchos años se nos ha presentado diversas producciones con animales de protagonistas, e incluso Disney replico y perfecciono dicha fórmula, entregándonos una película increíble, la cual fue: Zootopia.

Considero que esta obra en específico es la que más podría asemejarse a este anime, pero a la vez es muy, pero muy diferente. Esta serie nos presenta una narrativa muy profunda, y personajes sumamente complejos, logra abordar temas que se podrían considerar como controversiales, de una manera muy cruda.. Convirtiéndose en un reflejo crudo y honesto de nuestra propia sociedad actual. La historia principal gira en torno a la academia Cherryton, un centro educativo donde estudiantes herbívoros y carnívoros coexisten, pero donde se nota mucho las tensiones, y los prejuicios que existen.

En todo este contexto, sucede un evento que sacude a toda la academia, y a toda la ciudad: el asesinato de una alpaca, estudiante de dicha institución. Sin duda, esto genera olas de sospechas y temores, poniendo a prueba la frágil armonía en la que se sostenía la academia y la sociedad.

It is important to mention that this series is TV-MA, for people over 17 years old. I will start by mentioning the classification of the productions I am presenting, I don't want parents to complain to me later because they end up showing these anime to their children, only to realize that it is not a content intended for minors. Let's continue, at the center of all this drama derived from the murder, we find our protagonist, Legoshi, a somewhat shy and reserved gray wolf who constantly fights against his predatory instincts... despite his somewhat intimidating appearance, he tries very hard to project an extremely friendly and carefree image, trying not to make his other classmates, mostly herbivores, feel uneasy or nervous.

However, one day his life changes completely when he meets Haru, a little rabbit from the garden club... this triggers a whirlwind of emotions and desires in Legoshi, which will test everything he knows, and the feelings he has experienced. This relationship is one of the main pillars of the series, and it is through it, where we are introduced to different themes such as discrimination, prejudice and the struggle for acceptance. Haru, is tired of being seen as a mere little creature, helpless and treated with pity, this has led her to have a somewhat promiscuous sex life.. on the other hand, Legoshi has to face a continuous battle against his animal instincts, and his intense feelings that he has begun to develop for Haru.

Empezaré a mencionar la clasificación de las producciones que presento, no quiero que haya después padres quejándose conmigo porque terminan poniéndoles estos animes a sus niños, para luego darse cuenta de que efectivamente no es un contenido dirigido a menores de edad. Continuemos, en el centro de todo este drama derivado del asesinato, encontramos a nuestro protagonista, Legoshi, un lobo gris algo tímido y reservado que constantemente lucha contra sus instintos depredadores.. a pesar de su apariencia algo intimidante, este se esfuerza mucho por proyectar una imagen sumamente amigable y despreocupada, intentando no hacer sentir intranquilos o nerviosos a sus demás compañeros de clase, mayormente herbívoros.

Sin embargo, un día su vida cambia completamente al encontrarse con Haru, una pequeña coneja del club de jardinería.. esto desencadena un torbellino de emociones y deseos en Legoshi, que pondrán a prueba todo lo que él conoce, y los sentimientos que ha experimentado. Esta relación es uno de los principales pilares de la serie, y es a través de ella, donde se nos presentan distintos temas como la discriminación, los prejuicios y la lucha por la aceptación. Haru, está cansada de que la vean como una mera criatura pequeña, indefensa y tratada con lástima, esto la ha llevado a tener una vida sexual algo promiscua.. por otro lado, Legoshi tiene que enfrentarse en una batalla continua contra sus instintos animales, y sus intensos sentimientos que ha empezado a desarrollar hacia Haru.

This series has a great variety of interesting characters, we will also meet Louis, a rather proud and charismatic deer, who longs to obtain the title of “Beastar”, a recognition that few animals get, which represents the best student of the academy, and of course the most influential among all. Through this character, we are presented with themes such as toxic masculinity, classism, and the classic social pressure, which makes many students take very questionable attitudes or actions to meet certain expectations of others, or “fit in”.

This anime presents a lot of food for thought, addressing complex conflicts in a very honest and realistic manner. This series not only shines for its story, it is not a simple series of animals living in a perfect world, where they jump and play as if nothing... this series takes you into the depths of current human conditions, using unique characters with their own moral conflicts, giving us a very realistic world of humanized animals, and all the complexities that this implies, exploring in depth all the fears, desires and contradictions of such a world.

A través de este personaje, se nos presentan temas como la masculinidad tóxica, el clasismo, y la clásica presión social, que hace a muchos estudiantes tomar actitudes u acciones muy cuestionables por cumplir ciertas expectativas ajenas, o “encajar”.

Este anime presenta muchos temas para reflexionar, abordando conflictos complejos de una manera muy honesta y realista.. Esta serie no solo brilla por su historia, no es una simple serie de animalitos que viven en un mundo perfecto, donde saltan y juegan como si nada.. esta serie te mete dentro de las profundidades de las condiciones humanas actuales, usando personajes únicos con sus propios conflictos morales, dándonos un mundo muy realista de animales humanizados, y todas las complejidades que esto implica, explorando a fondo todos los miedos, deseos y contradicciones de un mundo así.

As for the more technical aspects of this series, the animation presented here could be called... interesting. I mean, there is a mix between 3D CGI and traditional animation, and this was one of the main reasons why many people complained, especially those who were waiting for an adaptation of the original manga... For people who are not used to this type of animation, it is possible that at first they may reject it a little, I myself thought a lot about watching it for this very reason, since I am not a big fan of the 3D type of animation.

But, I must admit that it does end up surprising you pleasantly... it is quite fluid, and in the key moments, the action scenes are very good... this animation fulfills its objective, and it perfectly transmits every movement, feeling and expression of the characters, that's great, because it helps you to connect with these characters, to empathize with them... Don't let this stop you from giving this work a chance.

Me explico, hay una mezcla entre CGI del tipo 3D, con animación tradicional, y esto fue una de las principales razones por las cuales muchas personas se quejaron, en especial aquellas que venían esperando una adaptación del manga original.. Para las personas que no están acostumbradas a este tipo de animación, es posible que al principio la rechacen un poco, yo mismo me lo pensé mucho en verlo por esta misma razón, ya que no soy muy fan del tipo de animación 3D.

Pero, debo admitir que sí termina sorprendiéndote gratamente.. es bastante fluida, y en los momentos claves, las escenas de acción son muy buenas.. esta animación cumple con su objetivo, y es que transmite perfectamente cada movimiento, sentimiento y expresión de los personajes, eso es genial, debido a que te ayuda mucho a conectar con estos personajes, a empatizar con ellos.. Que esto no los frene en darle una oportunidad a esta obra.

Also, the soundtrack, led by the awesome opening “Wild Side” is completely perfect! It transmits you in a great way the whole atmosphere of the work, cruel and at the same time loving... as for negative points... I could say that in some occasions you can feel some abrupt or very disconcerting changes in the rhythm of the story... For example, we go from a romantic drama to a crime thriller in a matter of seconds, without warning.. this can make you feel that the rhythm is lost, since they don't take as their time for some transition scene, although it can be for many reasons, and you can even get to compare with reality, where a situation of love passion, can turn into something totally different from one moment to another.. so I guess it's not something too bad.

Beastars is an anime that I highly recommend, taking out of the way the classic furry jokes, I found this story fascinating and deep... Its second season continues to explore in an incredible way all the positive things I mentioned, we will know more about the past of the characters, and we are introduced to other new characters that enrich the experience. The way in which this anime has managed to explore universal and complex themes seemed incredible to me... it certainly defies your expectations, it surprises you a lot as the chapters progress, it makes us question our prejudices and to face our own inner demons, especially to know how to keep them aside.

Even if it is a bit shocking in some parts, it is precisely that honesty that makes it a complete gem. I give it a mighty 9/10. This series makes the viewer reflect and think in a unique way, and incidentally presents us with a very original story for adults, helping to remove the disgusting stigma that anime is for kids. I'm anxiously awaiting its final season, which will arrive in the next few months. I hope you give it a chance, I'll see you in the next review, take care!

Te transmite de una manera genial toda la atmosfera de la obra, cruel y a la vez amorosa.. en cuanto a puntos negativos.. podría decir que en algunas ocasiones se sienten unos cambios abruptos o muy desconcertantes en el ritmo de la historia.. Por ejemplo, pasamos de un drama romántico a un thriller policíaco en cuestión de segundos, sin previo aviso.. esto puede hacer sentir que el ritmo se pierde, ya que no se toman como su tiempo para alguna escena de transición, aunque puede ser por muchas razones, e incluso se puede llegar a comparar con la realidad, donde una situación de pasión amorosa, puede convertirse en algo totalmente distinto de un momento a otro.. así que supongo que no es algo demasiado malo.

Beastars es un anime que recomiendo mucho, quitando del medio los clásicos chistes de furros, esta historia me pareció súper interesante y profunda.. Su segunda temporada sigue explorando de una manera increíble todo lo positivo que les mencione, conoceremos más a fondo el pasado de los personajes, y se nos presentan otros personajes nuevos que enriquecen mucho la experiencia. La forma en la que este anime ha logrado explorar temas universales y complejos me pareció increíble.. sin duda desafía tus expectativas, te sorprende mucho conforme avanzan los capítulos, nos hace cuestionar nuestros prejuicios y a enfrentarnos a nuestros propios demonios internos, sobre todo a saber mantenerlos al margen.

Aunque sea un poco impactante en algunas partes, es precisamente esa honestidad la que la convierte en una completa joya. Le doy un poderoso 9/10. Esta serie hace reflexionar y pensar al espectador de una manera única, y de paso nos presenta una historia para adultos muy original, ayudando a quitar el asqueroso estigma de que los animes son para niños. Estoy esperando ansioso su temporada final, que llegara en los próximos meses.. Espero se animen a darle una oportunidad, nos veremos en la próxima reseña, cuídense mucho!
