What spurred me to watch this? Probably the same force that spurred me to watch Too Many Losing Heroines..
Around the last quarter of this year, I decided to diversify the anime I watch. Not only stuck on shounen action but exploring other genres and I started with the direct opposite of actions....
Romantic comedy....
2.5 Jigen no Ririsa
Plot
Masumane Okumura finds solace in the anime world after a tragic romantic confession incident. That incident makes him swear off normal 3D girls and devote himself completely to his anime.
In the beginning of his 2nd Academic year, Okumura's life is turned upside down as he meets Ririsa Amano, a passionate 1st year cosplayer who's also in love and possibly a bigger fan of his favorite anime character Lilliel.
She manages to convince him to take pictures of her cosplay and through certain circumstances they end up going to events as a group. Spending time with her helps him come to a conclusion..
He'll love only 2D girls.. but 2.5D is not so bad
Like I said earlier before.
I don't have a valid reason for watching this. It was a spur on the moment kind of thing, just a whim, plus the name was a click bait for me at that time as the English translation was 2.5D Fatal Seduction.
Yet after 2 episodes, I realized that there was hardly any seduction, nothing was fatal either (except maybe Okumura's nosebleeds). The name was a total misdirection, although it did lead me to a lovely unique romantic comedy that'll left quite an impression.
I believe the most exalted quality for this anime is it's uniqueness. An anime about anime, it's the first I've seen.
I see myself as a major Otaku. I have quite an impressive collection of anime shows downloaded, a gone to a number of events and I'm actually an anime merchandise seller. So I guess you could say that the reason why I was so intrigued with this show was the passion I saw the main characters Okumura and Ririsa showcase when talking about their own shows.
The passion and thought that goes into the cosplays they make and wear also some what opens a little bit of what cosplayers are about.
I'll be frank, the comedic gags aren't quite funny and the only joke that might even be slightly amusing is the sheer cluelessness of Ririsa and Okumura when it comes to their feelings to one another.
Despite it's underperformance in the 'comedic' aspect of a "Romance Comedy"show is one that's surprisingly quite addictive, at least it was to me.
It's a bit of a 50/50 chance that you may like it, but if you were the least bit curious or intrigued, then I totally urge you to check it out! ; )
