Good day lovely people of hive~ How are you guys doing? it's a Monday again and I am honestly sooo glad that I started on this drawing yesterday because my Monday has been a little busy and a little hectic because.. well, it's Monday ;;-;;
For today's prompt word, we have mask. Masklophobia, in a medical sense and this one is common for children. As the name implies, it is an irrational fear of masks and in other costume clothing since children do have a hyperactive imagination. And if it persists even through adulthood, there could also be some traumatic events experienced with people wearing masks, like a robbery, or a kidnapping, or something else that may have caused this. The uses of masks while doing crime is quite rampant so I wouldn't be surprised with this. Also those creepy horror movies that use another humans face as a mask, that one is sooooo creepy.
This time, I made a wall of masks because I find those equally as creepy as the ones I mentioned earlier ;;-; and what if the masks suddenly grew eyes or were used in some sort of crime too. That would make it creepier
Materials: Black ink, black and white pen, chalk
Duration: 3 hours XD
So yes, I hit 3 hours with this one because I made sooooo many paper masks and I basically spent 10-15 minutes on each face. Not that slow, but that was definitely a lot of detailing and shading for me ^^ I do count this as one of my best works this sketchtember, next to the spider one on day 1 ^^
For the progrssion, I started with inked paper because doing this in clean white paper would make it harder for me to establish good shadow values for this one.
The I started making random shapes for the mask shapes XD they already looked weird at this point and this is actually what I started on yesterday. I ran out of one black pen here because I apparently ink too much now so I had to buy a new black pen yesterday too. Just this already ate up 20 minutes of my drawing time because of how many heads I originally wanted to draw XD
Then by this point, I had already hit an hour and a half because of these stupid heads XD and my hands were starting to hurt because I kept switching between a really opaque black pen, a heavy black pen, chalk then the white pen and readjusting to different sticks always makes my hands hurt quite a bit. I should have maybe did the opaque black on everything first then the dark black, then chalk then the highlights but IDK why I did it one by one... I think the other rout may have taken me longer XD
At this point, I was at 2 hours then I told myself, omg this will be my last layer XD my hands hurt so much and I didn't want to leave it unfinished... so I may have cut the paper a layer shorter just to make it look more complete.
And there you go, my wall of masks that I would not hope to see at my house ;;-;;
Thank you guys for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed seeing my progression and my suffering with this one. I do think this one was extremely worth the struggle even if my hands hurt so much while I'm typing. I am done with day 9~~ let's see what I draw for day 10 or if I can even do the day 10 XD
