Clio didn't hesitate to get updated.
Of all the muses, Clio, being so enamored of History , knew that History might repeat, rhyme, or run a straight line, but she also knew History favored Change.
The glow of tech felt new and powerful
and the clarity of her thought was never better. She somehow felt Stronger and that is a powerful statement when one's father is Zeus.
Clio was used to being represented with parchement, scrolls, or books to hearld her relation of History, but now she needed none of it.
Would she speak of the past and it's harbingers of war and change by simply beaming such knowledge into heads? Or perhaps the odd little boxes carried about by the people, whose transfixed faces were often in it's glow. Could she simply tell her tales directly to them?
She felt odd now, as if the power was fading
Did this power of man and tech not have the longevity of the mind of a God's daughter? had she made a mistake, letting in the wires and chips and 1's and 0's.
She wanted to warn them all, in historical precedent, for what was coming,
The rinse repeat of the 20th century upon them all, but she found herself frozen. A scroll or parchement could be dropped and read my a passerby and they could get out the messages from history, but now, frozen and slowly losing the lights of her new blinking tech, Clio could warn no one...the power now was in those 1's and 0's they had, could it be, stopped a Muse.
Could then, she thought, this tech stop up the Gods?
She worried of her home on Parnassus and her sister muses, would they be blocked out by this electrical magic and their voices and warnings stopped up, like a cork in a bottle?
She could feel herself going dim now
and she hoped the best for the human race; they'd have no warning from her and History, she'd been blocked from whispering any lessons learned from the past. They were all, now, on their own...As Clio's eternal light was slowly slipping and the History of the ages of man and Gods slipped into 1's and 0's until the light completely went out...unless someone found an old parchement or book and looked and learned from the past. She hoped for that wayward lesson in the old paper pages
The Lesson of History was now left in the hands of Man. and out went her light.
I hope you enjoyed my little story of our drawing and her various colored iterations. Our Muse, Clio, the muse of History and foretelling events was happily done up in a Singularity vein.
I had made Clio to be in my Singularity series and she started out, per usual, as a sketch on paper:
Then scanned and digital inking begins:
In her black and white form
A gif of the process:
I've really been enjoying coloring my black and white drawings. I've found this month, when giving myself that 'artist's time' I call it when one feels suspended in timelessness and you are creating that you're in a sort of void of history and time, and when you come out of that and hear the news or watch the current world, the idea of escape is always enticing. I think going over some of my black and whites and playing with color has helped in that escape. We are living in future history books these days it seems and I hope we can all still maintain the good and pure love of humanity.
I hope you enjoyed my little painting and drawing and silly little story and I wish for you to find a moment in your day for escape and joy and to indulge in your own passions; as always remember to stay creative (and hopeful)
