There were so many characters that came to mind when I came across this card. Most of them of Minotaurs as seen in movies. The urge to do the regular mixing of reference and card was strong on me but I resisted and decided to do something with the card alone with only little changes to it.
The colour limitation I had made me think of leaving some parts of the body unshaded. This decision wasn't something I arrived at lightly.
I followed my usual tradition of drawing the lineart with my blue pen..
Mapped out the head and shaded the few parts I believed I needed to in order for me to pick out the structure of the character.
...after this I drew his arm and bent his spear for creativity's sake. The limitation I have with my colours are becoming obvious and I am working on building my mind to interpret in its own terms so please bear with me.
...it was already getting dark at this point so I had to round up and shade his shield. I then held off till the next time the Sun would greet the sky.
...the process continued but after the space of two days. I wasn't able to get things in place so I had to wait till I was chanced and there was no rain..
Moving on, I was able to trace out the armor and put some ground work as to how I wamted the layout to be..
and in no time, the sketch was done...
....but still I had to sign and add some depths to the already finished work.
The materials I used while making this sketch are blue, black and red pens from two brands: BIC and SCHNEIDER
