Hello everyone. This is the first time I am posting in this community and to be honest I don't really know if this is the right place to do so. But try as I could to find an appropriate community my instincts tell me this is where it belongs. Hear me out.
A week ago the exhibit of my daughter's all-women artist group ended. While they were packing up their art works, another artist meantime was also bringing in his paintings for the next exhibit. I looked at the different canvasses as they were brought in and realized that the paintings were all abstract art. Here's what Google Search has to say about abstract art.
Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect. Strictly speaking, the word abstract means to separate or withdraw something from something else.
Here are some of the paintings brought in that evening.
Every piece of art to be exhibited were like these. I am not an artist nor do I claim to be knowledgeable about what makes for good and bad art. They say there must be color coordination, symmetry, body, movement and the sort. But to be true to myself, and to you, dear readers, I found the paintings to be out of this world. It's as if an extraterrestrial being possessed the artist and made him paint something that aliens and its kin appreciate and enjoy.
Now I begin to understand and appreciate more the saying, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." I am more of a realist and prefer art that resembles real life and reality. I find it hard to see the beauty in these unless, maybe, if the artist himself explained how he conceptualized his works. But, the artist, I found out has been abroad and has studied art in a well-known academy. He is popular among the art afficionados in the country and this is his 5th solo art exhibition featuring his kind of art. I must be a caveman to this artist lol!
But doesn't it seem like if you've seen one, you've seen them all? Not quite. He had pieces with different strokes and styles as well.
Still, these paintings might as well be alien works from the point of view of an unschooled earthman in the realms of art. Would you agree?
