A Vampire on the Beach | Modern Fantasy

Hello once again, if you know me you will know that I love to make series of illustrations, and a month ago I started one called "Modern Fantasy" where I seek to place fantastic beings in our modern environment, because basically I love fantasy worlds but I wanted to give it a different touch, it is not a very revolutionary idea because I have already seen movies, series and even art with this theme, but it really makes me happy to make these scenes. You can see the first illustration here 👉 Modern Fantasy - First Attempt.

As the title says, this second illustration is about a vampire sunbathing on the beach, something completely against the nature of these beings, who usually disintegrate when in contact with sunlight, but come on, it's about modernity, there should already be a sunscreen for vampires, everyone should be able to go to the beach without that annoying little problem of dying if there is a little sunlight.

🔰Process🔰

-Step 1:

Since it was a sunny day in the middle of the beach, I left aside the gray or white backgrounds when sketching, I went straight to a light blue tone very saturated and worthy of an ideal beach day. I also made two sketches, an initial one to establish the character in the scene, and then I proceeded to define it a little more to make the vampire girl look a little younger and more aesthetic.

-Step 2:

Then I proceeded to fill the shape of the vampire girl using the pencil tool, then right click and use the fill path option, and immediately start working on the skin, which I wanted to look pale but without being completely white, so I gave strong shadows that made notice the lack of brushing in the illuminated areas of her skin.

-Step 3:

But I still felt that the character was lost with the background, so I took a layer in the multiply merge mode and with this I made the shadows stronger, so I gave some detail to the background that I really wanted to have 0 prominence.

-Step 4:

The challenge for me in this painting was always to make it known that this was a vampire girl, since besides the long fangs there is no other indication to the viewer that this is not just a girl with very pale skin sunbathing, so I wanted to give her a more gothic look with very dark hair with some purple strands, a black swimsuit and a minimalist tattoo on her arm, and of course the sunglasses with two side shields because for sure vampire eyes are not for a day bathed heavily by sunlight.

-Step 5:

I was finally giving color retouching, accentuating the saturation of blue in the sky, which occupies much of the canvas for a simple reason, and is that I can have a great wallpaper for my smartphone and so avoid having to crop the image, So I can have an art that I can really see every day. On the other hand apply some dodge color to the borders between light and shadow on the vampire girl’s skin to achieve a special touch on her

Tell me in the comments if at first glance you could guess that it is a vampire on the beach

I will leave you a GIF with the whole process on it, so you can better appreciate the illustration process.

Tell me in the comments if this Oni should have had tattoos all over her body..

See you in a future post!
