Hello community! Ready for a new splinterlands artwork?
Last week I wanted to participate in the splinterlands weekly contest but I was a little short of time, so I preferred to calm down and take my time to make the piece correctly without rushing.
But here is Theorosa Nightshade, one of the most powerful in the lore of the game, and who at first glance has an air of being a little crazy, I mean that in a good way (or something like that) because she reminded me of Jinx or Harley Quinn, and reading her story is quite hard and with a tragic ending, which gives even more sadness to see her current behavior, although she is happy dancing wherever she goes, so I wanted to portray her in her current state of happiness and madness, but sacrificing her cape to make her pose more dynamic so she can go around and dance everywhere.
-Step 1:
This really was a challenging pose, I had to get it off my chest at once, so I had to turn the canvas every 30 seconds to draw the pose properly, and even worse was adjusting the spear, as perspective played an important role in the scene.
-Step 2:
Once the pose was ready, now I focused on making the face, for this I was looking for references of comic illustrations of Harley Quinn because I wanted to reflect a face with a clear expression of madness, so the eyes and the big smile were essential, and of course she is looking directly to the camera, something like breaking the fourth wall.
-Step 3:
When you have base grays, the fastest way to color is to use the lasso tool and select each section of your drawing, in this case there were four: the skin, the hair, the clothes and that section in the middle of the clothes (I don't know how to call it), and once selected, press Ctrl+B and play with the colors until you get to the ones you want.
-Step 4:
The colors obtained with the color balance (Ctrl+B) are very desaturated so it is necessary to add a little saturation and contrast with a layer in multiply, plus you have to add a dark eyeliner to the eyes, as well as lipstick. Also Theorosa looked very lonely with that empty background, so I tried to do something, I mean "I tried" because I really didn't know what to do there, I burned all my brain on the pose of the character.
-Step 5:
Now if literally comes the magic, Theorosa's powers shine in blue, but a few flashes in other shades were not bad, I also tried to make some runes but I think they will go unnoticed at first glance, as well as the symbol of the moon, basically I failed in the most important.
But as for the spear (I think it would be more like an axe or a mixture of both), since I had a diamond I thought it would be great if the two tips of the sides had the same texture, so it will also be half translucent. And of course everything catches the blue light, from the foot to the hair to the glitter on the clothes.
I will leave you a GIF with the whole process on it, so you can better appreciate the illustration process.
Tell me in the comments that you imagine when you see this illustration.
See you in a future post!
