Happy Friday! I hope you are wrapping up your work week! In my case, I am staying at home since yesterday because I am sick (again). Someone got the cold and then transmitted it to everyone, ugh. It became worst because of the weather. Prior to being sick, I volunteered to host an event later on HivePH. So, will snooze after posting this. 💤
Anyway~ That is just an update from me. This art is four days in the making because I feel sleepy whenever I take my meds or just wanna stay in bed. I am not used to not doing anything so I just blog this art today, bit by bit.
For this week, I chose Spirit Shaman 🌀 It reminds me of the anime Shaman King.
You can check out the contest here.
Sketch
For the sketch, I used a g-pen in size 10. This is the stage where I am free to sketch and conceptualize what would be the position of the head, hair, hands, etc. To make the process easier I got a reference from Pinterest. I believe that even the greatest painters got inspo from somewhere. I assume that Spirit Shaman is a girl so I put long lashes to the eyes. I used the symmetrical ruler for the hair, eyes, and face shape.
Flat colors and shading
Using the color-picker, I picked the color from the original art. I desaturated the color a bit for the fur and coat color. I colored the back fur in a darker shade. I did not finish the right hand because it will be covered up with the blue glow later.
I made shading to the back of the hand, face, and hair. I just used a darker color for the base. I used a downloaded brush from Clip Studio Asset for the fur and lightning. I chose an orange sky, just to match the overall color of the character. I tried blue, but I did not like it, haha.
At this stage, I focused more on the glow and lightning effect. So the idea is, the lightning is flowing through the fingers. This is the hardest part for me as it needs to look like the flow is natural. As I said earlier, I did not finish the right hand because it will be covered up with lightning. I used multiple layers just to get to this point. Those little strands of lightning are drawn using g-pen size 3. I also added the earrings already and clipped a glow layer.
The second picture, is where I added the shadows on the hand. I used an airbrush and blend mode for the shadows. I also used a blend for the fur shadows to make it smoother. I used a cloud brush and then set it to eye fish effect. Added the nails too, I remember it just in the last minute. 🤣
Final Art
Using a lightning brush, I put some of those in the background. I thought of a light source on the left side just for extra dimension. I put a multiply layer of airbrushed black and then set it to 30 percent opacity. I blurred out the lower and top portions. I made the glow in the eyes more intense.
Thanks for reading~ 💖
