For this week, I chose Ilthain to draw in my style! ✨ What vibe am I feeling with this card? Hmmm 🤔 I feel like she came from a sand village like Gaara. 😆 Perhaps because of the clothing and the staff. Clothing like this reminds me of dry land or desert. Her red pigments on the skin remind me of Zuko, too.
I challenge myself lately to create a new outfit of the card out of the original one. For this, I thought a scarf covered the head, wrapping around the neck. I will put the staff in front like the right hand is holding it. To make the pose more dynamic, I will make a foreshortening of the left hand exposing the palm.
It was really hard to pick the true color of the hair. When I used the color-picker, it turned dark blue. But looking at the original card, It looks dark brown. So, what I did is I just manually looked for the color on the wheel. The hair is a bit wack now, but it will be covered by the staff later on. I also did the eyes already to set the mood.
The staff is easy to make. I used the shape tool to make a circle, and then copy and paste it into two. For the triangles and the sticks, I used a symmetrical ruler. I used four colors here. Gray, metallic yellow, dark brown, and dark pink.
Now, let's put the staff in front of the character. I placed the staff wherein the eyes are still seen, just for the expression of the character. I also already put the base color for the clothing, more like Earth colors.
I imagine the background is a sunset in a rocky desert. 😅🏜 I just used my rock brush and pile them to make a rocky mountain. I used the gradient tool of the default sunset in the bucket tool.
I shaded the skin with a darker brown color. I added the red and purple pigment by using a textured brush and then toned it down with the painter's blend available in the tools.
After skin, I did the shading for the clothing.
Adding more details on the background with clouds. I just randomly scatter them, but making sure both sides have a balanced perspective of the clouds.
I added more shadows on the left side, so assuming that the light source is on the upper right.
Final Art
My final stage would usually compose of adding the final glow. I feel like there is something missing in the art. So, I added a glow-like some sort of power-ish blob on the palm. 😅 Ohh~ that made it more interesting~
I added more shine to the staff since it is metallic. Finally adding the glow in the light source!
Finished art! I hope you enjoyed the process!
