How is everyone? I missed Week 259 because I was sick. 😩 The sudden change of weather irritates my throat. In addition, I had heavy work before that, so I was busy and sick. But, congrats to the winners of last week. You can check them here.
For this week, I chose Noa the Just.
Art Process
I usually drew characters with slim to medium build but this time, a muscular guy. Jacked characters for me are hard to draw. 😅 I searched for a good reference for this card to help me with the sketch. Instead of long hair, I drew spiky hair with a low ponytail. I also replaced the mermaid tail with legs topped with clothing. In the background, I am thinking of putting some waves and a mountain. After the sketching, I lowered the opacity and started doing the lineart. For this, I used a solid pencil brush. I drew lines to make the muscle visible. I fixed the width and erased the excess of the lines using a vector eraser.
I just played around with the base color this time and not color picking it from the original card. I chose a darker blue somewhat like navy blue and an off-white with a yellow undertone for the skin. For the clothing, I thought of coloring it with green and purple in an alternative pattern. I separated the layers for the hair, body, and clothing. I applied the shadows first on the body, assuming the light source was coming from the left. I added highlights on the arms highlighting the muscles, clothing, and hair. I added another layer for the sticking out strands of hair.
I added another layer on top to darken the skin. I used a dark blue in multiply mode. For the background, I thought of doing Hokusai's famous painting The Great Wave. It is very fitting for this character, in my opinion. I still remember how I drew the wave so, it was easy for me to recreate it. I added a glow of blue on the left corner, just a little.
Final Art
In addition to the waves, I added another element which is the snowy mountain. I blurred out some of the background for depth. Added some noise monochrome for a paper texture. Lastly, fixed and adjusted the lines. 😁
Finished art!! 🥰 I enjoyed doing this art.
