Splinterlands Art Contest!
Hello guys, how's everyone doing? I hope all of you guys are having a great day. Today decided to post my entry for Splinterlands Art Contest. I'm early this time because I was working on something and I think I finally figured out how to shade it properly. I finished the artwork yesterday night and added some details and refined the work a bit more before posting here.
Swamp Spitter
The Process
The character design is obviously inspired from teenage mutant ninnja turtles. It was that hard to find a reference for that since the character is well know. Found a very cool pose and decided to use that for drawing Swamp Spitter. After that I was wondering if I should go with anime style art like the Golem I shared two weeks ago. I felt like it would be a wasted opportunity because the lineart for this character is pretty good so I decided to use comic style art here and it worked much better than last time I tried this. Since the muscular definition was very clear in the lineart it was easy for me to paint and shade it accordingly. I used water colour mix brush to blend this. This brush is much better than the blend brush I used before because this one doesn't lag while doing it. After shading it I added some highlights and that really improved the 3d factor on this painting. Also added green rim lights on one side to make it more beautiful.
Adding the armour on his knees broke my heart because all the work I done on the knee area is now covered lolz. I kept the background simple this time. I just duplicated the character layer and put in overlay blurred mode behind it. Finished the painting by adding some details on his armour and hat. I hope you liked the painting hehe.
