The Ministry of Education announced the date for the annual school quiz competition with mouthwatering prizes for winners and even participating schools. The participants are also entitled to scholarships for about two years. Joanne and her friend saw this as an opportunity to advance their studies in a better school than their present one.
Joanne told her friend Julie about the scintillating offers and both friends and vowed to be among those that will represent their school, the Chennai High School.
To do this, Joanne and her friend Julie started practicing with the hope of coming out tops and thus be selected to represent their school. Joanne usually digress while answering questions from the current affairs section. She paid more attention in that regard so that it won't derail her ambition.
When the D-Day for selection came, she was confident that she'll clinch one of the slots available. For Julie, everyone knows her as a star girl. Her slot is already guaranteed. "I digress alot while answering questions from current affairs", she told her friend Julie. But Julie assured her that she had already improved in that regard and so should not entertain further fears.
Both friends walked into the venue for the selection. Julie went first for the questions and as widely expected she dazzled and at some point had to be picked out from the rest as the leading candidate.
Joanne on her path maintained her cool and as fate may have it was able to surmount the pressure, beating other students to clinch the remaining slot; only two representatives per school. Julie ran out and gave her a big hug. Both friends were the billed to represent Chennai High School in the state quiz competition.
They left for home that day feeling on top of their worlds.
