Are We Taking Religion Too Seriously?

in #hive-1611555 months ago

I’m an African and a Nigerian to be precise. Our normal religion is the traditional one where we have so many little gods and they serve as an intermediate between we and God from what I learned. Then, the white people came with their religions which are the Christian religion and Islamic religion. Now, we tend to see a lot of Africans who follow that path and that’s not the problem. As long as the white people have been able to convince us enough that the way they serve God is right, so why not? Africans are surely going to follow it.

Well, I think there is something I have noticed about we Africans. We tend to do too much of things instead of doing the normal thing and not going too deep in it.
I’ve seen cases where so many women choose to listen to their pastors or Imams instead of listening and doing what their husbands do want. Have you seen such before?
Some people even sleep in church or mosques for days without having to attend to their family. The worst part of it is the way some people treat their religious leader as their mini gods.
Have you seen such before?

My friends do this and instead if them to read while going to write exams, they’d rather pray. It’s good to pray but God helps those who help themselves and if you do not read, you ain’t going to pass.

This made me ask this question “Are we taking religion upside down?””
Some people no longer to to religious homes to serve God. They go because of their leaders so they will know that they are present in the organization.
I feel this doesn’t make sense and we gotta make it make sense.
If we don’t do things for God, we shouldn’t do it for an ordinary person. It doesn’t make sense to impress people if not God.

Did I speak your mind? Have you ever thought about this? What’s your opinion on this?
