Loss of Confidence

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you’re about to perform or minister a song in church or at a concert, and suddenly, right in front of the audience, the song just disappears from your head? You forget the lyrics, the keys—even the song itself—despite knowing it so well before stepping on stage.

This has happened to me several times, and I won’t lie to you—it even happened to recently in my church. I was in the Redeemed Christian Church of God here in Nigeria, ready to minister, and the moment I was handed the mic, the song completely vanished from my mind. I stood there, frozen.

But thank God for a lady beside me who quickly whispered to me, “I don’t care what happens.” That small encouragement somehow triggered my memory, and suddenly, I remembered the first line of the song. I picked up from there, and by God’s grace, I completed my ministration.

After that experience, I asked myself, What could have caused this? And then, I realized—it all came down to lack of preparation.

Whatever you don’t prepare for will naturally lead to poor performance. It’s inevitable. But when you prepare well—at least a week before your ministration or performance—you allow the song to settle deeply in your mind. If you dedicate even one or two hours daily to rehearsing, this kind of situation won’t happen to you.

So, I want to encourage you today: Prepare ahead, practice consistently, and trust God for confidence. Your preparation will always reflect in your performance.
