The excursion was nothing like Julie expected. The idea of a haunted forest sounded good at first until she met the reality of it. It was early November, a period when Julie and her friends often take a leave from work to go for either a trip or tour. This year, Susan suggested a haunted forest, she had watched a lot of it in movies and wanted to experience the thrill.
"I don't buy the idea of a haunted forest" Gladys retorted, she was known as the coward, who hated trying new things.
"Coward! What new idea have you ever bought in?" Susan asked, turning to the rest of the group as if seeking for validation.
"I think the idea of a haunted forest sounds good" Julie agreed, followed by the rest of the group leaving Gladys with no choice.
"Since it's Halloween, let's paint ourselves red, and do some spooky stuff," Susan, who had suggested the haunted forest, added. Again the group accepted and made red paintings on their legs and other parts of their bodies and decided to cut into boxes red carbon which they intended to pour on the ground where they'll sit.
The fun was high, there they sat with their body painted and the red carbon paper littered on the ground as they chatted and laughed, telling horrified stories when suddenly they started to hear strange noises. It started as a quiet howl, then gradually grew into a deep groaning, with each sound drawing closer to them. They stopped laughing, and sat with their eyes widely opened, looking at the direction the groaning was coming from.
"What's that?" Susan asked
'Sshh.., stay quiet' Julie said.
"I'm scared," Gladys mumbled under her breath.
Suddenly, an old witch appeared along the woods
"Run or get trapped," she said.
They took on their heels, except Gladys who fainted on the spot, there she lay with her white canvas beside the pieces of the red carbon paper.
