THE MONDAY CYCLE

If I had three wishes from the magical genie, I would definitely use one to erase the chaos of Monday traffic. If I had just one, I'd definitely be tempted to use it on Monday alone. It's top on my list of really annoying things to erase.

After the soft boy phase of my weekend, waking up to my alarm on a Monday morning is synonymous to a declaration of war. The mental agony of knowing there's thousands of people out there who have committed none other than the crime of going the same way as you. DREADFUL

There are times when I just want to pound the alarm set on my phone as it tries to wake me up, but then I remember the wise saying that "Violence doesn't solve all problems". Good thing they came up with that saying, otherwise ........ . Let's just leave it at that.

There's traffic and then there's TRAFFIC all in capital letters. The former is what you get on other days, while the latter is what is specially designed to frustrate you as you're trying to get to that very important interview. Guess what, the latter only seems to happen on Mondays.

Living in the city of Lagos has taught to me always appreciate it whenever I'm on the road and there's no traffic, because you always expect the unexpected. From unruly drivers disrupting the peace to the inexplicable absence of any meaningful problem. I was in traffic one time for about thirty minutes, only for us to finally get to the front and there was absolutely nothing in sight except a large pothole that the drivers were all trying to avoid. Mondays can be mad like that.

After finally escaping the traffic for the day, you look forward to the slightly better peace of the rest of the week and the weekend, only to wake up the next week to repeat the Monday cycle once again.
