After his medical condition him to lose his sense of sight, it had been a long period of adjustment for Tommy to be able to get around. There were too many instance of him getting lost without being able to find his way home even with a walking stick. As such, through the assessment and recommendation by the social worker attending to Tommy, he was being assigned a guide dog to help him get around.
The first day when Tommy's social worker bring the guide dog to Tommy, they spend a full day out in the vicinity that Tommy usually get his food and places that he frequent, then from each location, they will take a walk back to Tommy's house. After 3 days for familiarising with the routes, now the social worker allowed the guide dog to independently bring Tommy around. And when Tommy is tired, he just need to say 3 words "Guide me home" and the guide dog will based on its memory to bring Tommy home. From then on, the guide dog become Tommy's best companion.
