Fell Dragon Book 8 Part 14

Greetings Readers

Another weekend has passed and I still haven't found any time for myself to get my stuff in order. I'm so glad that Fell Dragon is complete and I don't have to write it out every week.

Today wraps up the event that occurred last week between Bolx and Kaiden. Enjoy it!

The Dekai stood over the Saith with his wings fully flared and his face red with anger.

“Edzeeker!” said the queen sharply, “You are a guest in this castle, and I will remind you that you don’t get to treat my subjects in this manner.”

The Dekai turned, as if ready to direct his anger at her, but Bolx quickly got to his feet and placed himself between him and Myla.

“This is none of your business.” Growled the Saith. “We were together long before you interfered with her body.”

The Dekai balled his hands and growled, “You ruined her. How can I expect her to do what she must? If she’s smart, she’ll deal with the problem quickly. She has already been noticed and more energy will make her a beacon.”

“Leave.” Growled Bolx.

The Dekai flapped his wings once before folding them up along his back. He then ran his hands through his hair and sighed before saying, “See to it that she makes the right choice.”

He then walked off while Bolx was silently shaking in fury. The Dekai’s reaction had told him volumes about their current situation. Sighing, the Saith wiped at a drippling nose. He didn’t know what to say or do at this point. His internal monologue was halted as the queen handed him a handkerchief.

“Care to explain?”

“It’s not for me to say anything, Myla. It’s not my place.” He said as he pressed the material to his face.

The queen nodded her head and said softly, “Let’s find Kaiden.”

It took them a few minutes to track down a servant and a few more for that servant to discover where the princess was. She was in the office of the castle doctor and had been there for some time already. Apprehensively, the pair went to the room only to find Karesh pacing the corridor. He looked up as he heard them approaching and his face was unreadable.

“I was just about to send a servant to find you.” He said softly to the Saith. “She wants to speak to you.”

“Karesh…?” started Myla.

“We’ll talk about this later, Myla.” He dismissed her and opened the door to usher the Saith in.

Now Bolx was sure he knew the answer to his questions this morning. He swallowed the lump in his throat and closed the door behind him. He could hear the doctor, who he believed was called Jarah, talking to his patient. Yet, as soon as the doctor became aware of the Saith, he ceased talking, bowed his head, and left the room quickly.

Kaiden was sitting on a hospital bed with her arms crossed. She had a pensive look on her face, other than that, Bolx couldn’t read her. He came to sit at the end of the bed and waited for her to address him, but she remained silent, staring at her crossed arms.

Eventually, the silence got too much for Bolx, and lay a hand on her shin to ask, “What do you want to do?”

She flinched as if struck. Suddenly there were tears in her eyes and she clenched her jaw tightly. Bolx was sure that Edzeeker had already gotten to her and given her a piece of his mind. It was likely more of a tongue-lashing than Bolx had gotten.

“There is a want, a need, and a must in my head.” She whispered, her voice breaking. “And none of them align with what I have to do in the future.”

Bolx moved closer and Kaiden sat up to sit next to him. Bolx wrapped his tail around her before his arm followed.

“Let’s start with the want.” He said softly.

“I want it.” She whispered.

Bolx hid his relief and squeezed her slightly. “Then what is the problem?”

“How can I carry a child with what’s happening around us? I need to be the Champion and now…”

“You are still a Champion, nothing has changed.”

“I must fight the Fell Dragon, how am I going to do that while…while…”

“You’re with child?” Finished Bolx.

She looked up at him and he saw the tears in her eyes. He hugged her tightly and simply said, “Whatever your decision, I will stand with you.”

He knew she wanted a family and now that the dream had come true. However, it was at the wrong time and place. He wasn’t even sure that his mixture of genetics could produce a child with a human would have been possible, but here they were.

He pushed her away and made her look at him to repeat, “Whatever you decide is best for you, that’s the route you will take. Whatever you decide, I will remain at your side as your husband and friend. I need and want you to understand that. This is your decision.”

“What are you doing up at this ungodly hour?”

Saita’s voice cut through his memory, and he slowly turned his head to see her poking her head through the open glass doors that led to their bedroom. She had a bleary look on her face as if she had just woken. He smiled softly, at this time of the morning, she didn’t look stressed.

“Thinking of when I first discovered Kaiden’s pregnancy.” He admitted. “I was so happy. After all those years, I was going to be a father again. However, I also gave her the option to let the pregnancy go if it didn’t align with what she wanted. It was one of the hardest things I ever told her.”

Saita looked at the snow that was falling harder now before looking back at Bolx. He was trying to smile but knew his emotions were more visible to her.

“She kept it though.” Commented Saita.

“Yes, she was about six weeks along when she finally followed up with the health issues she was having. A month later we discovered that it was a boy but were at a loss as to what to call him.”

Then his entire demeanour shifted, “Two weeks later, he was claimed by the Wasting Disease and Kaiden banished me here with the Guard I was leading. I have no idea what happened to her.”

Saita stepped out onto the balcony and wrapped her arms around the Saith. Nothing she could say would ease the pain he felt. She had encouraged him to talk about his time, no matter how painful it was to hear these stories. Bolx wrapped his arms around her, sheltering her from the snow and wind, seeing as she was barely dressed to be outside.

“As soon as Kaiden announced her intention to keep the pregnancy, Edzeeker lost interest in her. I should have known better that he wasn’t done with her though. He had taken his time to learn about her past and was able to track you down.”

“You’re not to blame for that.” Saita shut down his guilty thoughts. “Edzeeker would have come for some version of me eventually.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you.”

Saita knew that message was in equal parts for her and Kaiden. She continued to hold onto the Saith until he was ready to release her. The Saith looked down at her feet and frowned when he noticed they were bare.

“Now I’m going to have to deal ice cold toes when we go back to bed.”

“We can take a shower first if you wish.” She grinned up at him.

He half chuckled and pushed her to the door, “You can get it started, I’ll be in shortly.”

Saita nodded her head, knowing that the Saith needed a moment to himself. As soon as she stepped foot into the room, Bolx looked up at the still-dark heavens and whispered, “I would have stayed to fight with you. I love you, Kaiden, wherever you may be.”

I believe there is only one more flash back with Kaiden before Bolx comes to our current timeline, so gather those tissues!
