Greetings All
Slowly we are gathering our party members. There is a lot of tension between Fledge and Saita but nothing is being explained. What is Fledge hiding?
Fledge grumbled under his breath. This was supposed to be easy. In and out, and he could rest again, maybe influence his own timeline a little, but now it was getting complicated. Then again. Red-Eye was an experienced Wolven, and if he could get to a time where he could have access to his powers once more, then this may be the break that Fledge needed.
“Fine, but we cannot wait out here. We need to move back into the corridors so as not to be seen.”
“I will bring them back, I promise.” Said Red-Eye as he offered a hand to Saita.
She finally looked at him. That scar his mistress had given her had faded with time, he could see that now, and her eye looked tired.
“Thank you, Red-Eye.” She said as she took his paw.
“We leave now; no time to say goodbye. Let’s go.” Said Fledge, as he instructed Rubar to open the tear once more.
Red-Eye watched in fascination as the young Vulpine cut through the air to create a veil. Rubar then held up a paw. Red-Eye knew why. As soon as he had his powers back, he would teach the young pup to create more stable curtains.
Once Rubar was happy with the stability of the curtain, he ushered them in. Once they were within the time corridors, Rubar sat down with a sigh. He hadn’t had to practice this much in a while. He felt tired already.
“Now where?” he asked.
“I was about to ask the same question.” Said Saita. “Where would we go from here?”
“I need access to a Fell Dragon, but one that is asleep. I cannot come close to Mistress.”
“Does he mean Kay?” asked Fledge apprehensively.
“Yes. She has a lot of influence. If I am in a time where she is conscious, it will be very difficult for me to remain as is. She may have freed me, but I am Wolven, and I must serve.”
“And what about her?” Fledge pointed to Saita.
“Saita is no Fell Dragon.”
“Not her, her!”
“He means Kay, Red-Eye.”
“Mistress no longer is a Fell Dragon, she is free. Nothing more than an intent. She cannot control or fuel me.” Red-Eye then tilted his head to view Saita. “If you are as old as you claim, why are you not a Fell Dragon?”
Saita was about to answer, but Fledge interrupted, “Because she’s a coward.”
The comment stung, but Saita knew he was right. She had spent decades terrified that she would become like Kay. Destroying people, times, and dimensions. She had avoided it for so long, even hoping that death would take her one day. But as her life continued beyond what should have been a natural lifespan, she knew that she would one day have to become the thing she hated.
“He’s not wrong.” She sighed. “I was afraid, and now I am doing something selfish in hopes of getting to keep the life I had enjoyed.”
Red-Eye nodded his head and asked one last thing. “Where am I buried?”
“Close to where I live in the mountains. When you died, I had Kay exhumed and buried with you amongst some of the oldest tree roots I could find. Kay said your wish was to be buried with her.”
“I am glad you two talk on good terms.”
“We talk.” Snapped Saita. “Rarely.”
“Enough! Where do we go from here?” demanded Fledge.
Red-Eye scratched at his chin and looked at Saita. “There was a time when Mistress stirred enough to wake us but not be fully conscious. About sixish years before I faced you the first time.”
Saita sighed heavily. “That must have been during the early days of what would make me a Champion.”
She seemed to think this over and added, “And roughly the same time that Meedus disappeared.”
“That is Doran’s father.” Said Red-Eye. “He would lament about his disappearance during the war. Not understanding why he never returned with the rest of the dead.”
Saita remained silent, knowing that what they would do now would likely be the cause of what happened to Meedus. She looked over to Fledge, who refused to look at her. Red-Eye looked from the two of them and then Rubar and was starting to understand what was happening.
He felt the pull to obey from Fledge, but it was nowhere the strength of what he had felt with his mistress. The boy was a little more than a Fledgling Dragon. Red-Eye had killed thousands if not millions of Fledgling Dragons in his time, but this one was different. He hadn’t started out as a Champion. No, he was made to be a watered-down version of a Fell Dragon. That would explain why Rubar could travel through the curtains of time but needed time to stabilize it before moving through.
“I see.” He said softly. “There is no Fell Dragon, only Fledglings. This explains the hate I smell.”
Fledge blushed and glared at the Wolven.
“I have a rough date.” Said Red-Eye.
“Tell me, and I will look for it.” Said Rubar.
The two wolf-like creatures seemed to switch to a non-verbal form of communication while they looked for a new section in time to go. Saita sat down and waited for them to do what they must.
Red-Eye has joined the party and it is clear that Fledge isn't happy with what is going on.
