Greetings Readers

We had jumped time once more and we're back with one of the twins, who saved Bolx and Aidan.

Please enjoy the update!

Maxine stomped through the snow, kicking it up in a flurry, the last two years replaying in her mind repeatedly. Her brother had been right, he was always right, but she had wanted so badly to live up to her mother’s name, that she was blind to her being used.

Her parents had always been fighters. According to the rumours that floated around when Maxine was a child, they had met during a war started by Saita’s father against the Saith. If the stories were to be believed, the fight was over a stolen planet or something equally ridiculous.

Saita and Bolx had been the champions for their kings, though it had almost been Brucel who faced down the young princess. The stories told of a narrow draw between the two warriors that led to the truce being called between the humans and Saith.

However, Maxine’s mother had told her the truth. There had been no war, it had been a cover to find her after she had been kidnapped. Karesh was desperate to find his chosen daughter and scoured the universe to find any who could help.

A young Bolx, a mercenary just setting out on his year of service to the crown had listened to what Karesh asked of him. He had been intrigued by the story and said that he would do his best with what resources he had. What Karesh didn’t know at the time was that Bolx had the entire might of the Royal Guard waiting for him to take control of them. He had only to ask. However, he never did.

It would take four years, but eventually, Bolx found Saita and destroyed the Dekai Edzeeker and the human doctor Sellious before bringing her to Saith for recovery. The doctors on the planet marvelled at the work done on the princess but she was near savage from the experiments done on her. The only one she had shown restraint around was Bolx.

Seeing an opportunity to gather more resources and people to his crown, Brucel encouraged Bolx to travel with the princess to return her to her people. Karesh was only too grateful. So grateful that he offered his alliance to the tyrant king Brucel. The Saith king was thrilled. However, what he hadn’t foreseen was that Bolx would get far closer to Saita than he would have liked.

A few short years later, Maxine and her brother were born in secret. While Saita’s immediate family knew of the royal twins, their birth was never announced. They had come to learn of the tyranny of Brucel and wished to shield Saita and her children from him. However, they couldn’t keep it secret from Bolx. Thankfully, by then, Bolx realised what would happen if it was ever revealed that he had children outside of his species. So, the twins were kept secret from the world to keep their parents and races safe.

However, everyone knew it was only a matter of time. Both were trained to fight and defend themselves. Then the Fell Dragon came. Saita, long deaf from what had been done to her, had been called to battle, leaving her brother the throne. She and Bolx had fought side by side in human and Saith territories.

Nothing went the way it should of.

Maxine punched the closest tree, shattering it. She prevented any damage to herself with a shield she created around her. She had wanted to be a warrior that was well known. She didn’t want to hide; she was the one who insisted that she and Martin go to the Saith planet to help fight the Fell Dragon. It was there that they had run into Brucel.

At first, seeing their abilities, he had wanted the two of them to go to the Academy for further training. Martin had walked away from the offer, but she had been thrilled. Her parents warned her that once she was in the Academy, she was at the mercy of Brucel and Larden, and if they ever discovered who she really was. She hadn’t cared. The chance of becoming a Royal Guard like her father was a dream come true.

It was her fault that her entire family had been on the planet when the Fell Dragon came. The deaths of her mother, father, and older brother were on her head. She knew that now.

She dropped to her knees in the snow and allowed her emotions to get the better of her. She wept and screamed her frustration. Her screams echoed in the cold and several trees dumped snow from their laden branches.

Everything had been her fault. Her ego got her family wiped out, and the only reason she and her brother didn’t share their fate was because they had been rescued. Her memories were vivid of that day, despite it being months ago.

The guilt in Maxine is powerful but will time soothe it?
