Fledgling: Part 7

Greetings All

It has been a crazy week! I hope all of you have had a better time of things. I love to have work again but wow...I don't have time for anything!

Enjoy today's update!

Fledge was furious. He had always been led to believe that Kay had been destroyed by Saita. Instead, the legendary and infamous Fell Dragon was alive and living as an aid in Saita’s head. He wanted to scream at her. He couldn’t believe that she had brought something so dangerous here. Rubar noted his darkened face, and he turned to Saita.

“Can she…”

“She’s a spirit and can’t do anything.”

“King Sedeath had a solid form after he died and was also an aid.” Yelled Fledge.

“I was there. The Heavenly Shareik created a body made of energy. This is not a skill that I have, nor does Kay have any inclination to ‘live’ again.” Snapped Saita.

Fledge felt a panic attack building in his chest again. He sat down heavily and took a few deep breaths. Once he was calmer, he looked up at Saita.

“Fine. Whatever. Who else do we need on this adventure?”

Saita looked uncomfortable and said, “I need Red-Eye.”

Matta looked at Saita and seemed confused, “Why would you need him?”

“If Aidan travelled through time and dimension by looking at what Red-Eye did. I need Red-Eye to teach me.”

“Why did you never ask him while he was alive?” demanded Fledge.

“Because every time he looked at me there was pain in his eyes. I couldn’t take it anymore after a few years. I sent him away to start his own pack.”

“Good thing you did, or I would never have been born.” Said Rubar.

Fledge had so many conflicting feelings about Saita. He was furious over the existence of Kay, but he could feel the pain in Saita’s voice at having to send Red-Eye away. He continued to battle his feelings and panic attacks before he finally took a deep breath and let it out slowly.

“When?”

Saita seemed to think this over, and then said, “A week after I birthed the twins.”
Matta raised an eyebrow.

“He disappeared for a few weeks. He never told me where he was. It was the only time that he truly disappeared, and I couldn’t find him.”

Fledge got to his feet and slapped his hands on his thighs, “Then we have at least one correct time break we can make use of.”

“A time break is when fledglings can interfere with the timeline without affecting the people they need to be in contact with too much. Red-Eye was likely with us when he disappeared.” Rubar grinned at Saita, revealing his teeth.

Saita nervously rubbed at her right arm and looked at Matta.

“Will you be traveling with us?”

“Not for long. Heavenly attract way too much attention.” Said Fledge. “He will need to stay here.

“But Aidan and…”

“I don’t care what they said. You travel with me; you follow my rules.”

Saita frowned, “That’s fair.”

“And start thinking of other time breaks that could help us. The less time we spend out of breaks, the better.”

Saita took a deep breath and thought things through. It was then that she realised that someone had been missing for most of her life. In fact, she hadn’t seen him since before she returned after the four lost years.

“Meedus disappeared.” She whispered.

“Excuse me?” asked Fledge.

“He was Doran’s father. I always assumed he died while I was away. I was so wrapped up in my own problems that I never asked what happened to him. Doran never spoke of him, so it cemented the thought of his death in my head. Could it be that he is one of our companions to be?”

“Possible. We won’t know until we find him. However, since you don’t know when he disappeared, we’d have to guess.”

“Not unless we have Red-Eye. Red-Eye can travel through time and space using the corridors. We can view through the veil for the right moment to take him.”

“Risky, especially when going back in your own time. Meedus never came back, which could mean that he died or worse, fell out of time and is lost to wander purgatory until time collapses.”

“Still worth a try.” Rubar.

“Why bother with this man in particular?”

Saita frowned and said softly, “He’s a seer. The last one to be granted powers. Now that I think about it. He must have disappeared around about the time that I went missing because he would have found me had he been at my father’s side.”

Fledge couldn’t help but grin when he saw Saita lose all colour in her face when she realised the implication of what she was saying. It was highly likely that they were to join with this Meedus, and that something had happened, preventing him from returning to his correct time. This in turn prevented Saita from being found until after the damage that had been done to her.

“I am starting to understand the danger. Now we are left with no choice but to take Meedus, or my entire timeline will shift, and we don’t know what will happen.”

Fledge nodded his head, “I’m glad that you understand the danger now. Let this be a reminder of what could happen if you aren’t careful.”

Fledge then closed his eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes, he said, “I will need to change, and then find a quiet place to concentrate.”

Did I forget about Meedus in Fell Dragon? Well...yes and no. Initially, I was going to make him a casualty of war and then just forgot about him. Now he was found again, so yay!
