Hello Hive community!
Have you ever felt like you were in a rut, in a routine, and in the end, not as productive as you should be, even though you spend your time working?
We often tell you that if you feel like you're in a rut, in a routine, you have to get out. You have to go to places where you will meet inspiring people who will stimulate you, who will take you out of your daily routine, and who will boost your creativity.
You've heard this advice dozens of times before, and now you're saying to yourself "yes, it's no use, I'm not going to listen to this advice, I'm going to go and see something else, I'm going to use my time better".
But if you think like that, you have a mindset problem, because the question to ask yourself in that case is not "have I heard this advice before?", it's "when was the last time I applied this advice?" Would it be worth my time to apply it again today? Or if I didn't, what kept me from applying this advice? Why couldn't I implement it now? And even if I have done it enough, regularly, wouldn't it be worth implementing again now?
I see this mindset problem so often, people who tell me "Yes, I've heard this advice a dozen times before, I'm sick of it, I want something new". And I answer "did you apply the advice or not?" Most of the time, I am told "no" or I am told "yes, I did, 10 years ago". "And then it gives results?" "Yes, absolutely". "And have you done it again since then? " "No, but you understand, once is enough...".
When something works, you have to use it again and again and again until it doesn't work anymore. I took the specific example of when you are completely in a rut and you feel completely in a rut, how do you get out of it?
You have understood that the meta advice I give you is to be on the lookout for this tendency that we all have because our brain is constantly looking for novelty. It is bored by repetitive things.
One of the keys to success is to become less addicted to the new, less always wanting to chase the shiny new thing and focus on the things that work, the classic things, the things that you've heard before but didn't apply well, didn't apply at all, or applied so long ago that it would be worth redoing. And that applies to everything.
If there is a great book that changed your life that you read a long time ago, read it again. There may be tips you didn't see the first time, tips that were not adapted to your level that you forgot, basics that you forgot too.
If there is a great course you took a long time ago, don't hesitate to reread your notes and see if there are things that have gathered dust in your brain...
And going back to that specific tip, really try to connect to events where you're going to meet dozens, hundreds of inspiring people in your industry or an industry that you care about. Try to get your fill of ideas, be a sponge and also add value by sharing ideas. Try to get out of your geographical area, your country if you can. Do activities that you are not used to doing and you will see that it will stimulate you to death.
So go to events, be part of a mastermind. Try to connect with communities of entrepreneurs, creators, movers and shakers and you'll see the difference.
By the way, have you ever come across an old piece of advice that you didn't follow, started to apply it and thought "Oh my gosh, I really should have done that when I learned it instead of now, it would have saved me a lot of time"? If so, don't worry, it's never too late to do it right.
See you soon for the next article. In the meantime, don't forget: be rebellious, be smart, be one of the movers and shakers, and be one of the people who focus on what works rather than always on the lure of the new.
