Good day Hivers.
Hope your day is going smoothly...
Recently, Almost everyone is an entrepreneur.
In a Whatsapp conversation between a friend and I this morning he mentioned some skills he has learnt over the years but doesn't know how to make use of them fully. This made me think about myself, I'm practically facing the same thing, so much skills but none of them are making what I need. I'm just confused.
Learning and making use of skills is one of the trending and successful adventures currently, especially here in Nigeria with schools on strike and students left with no hope of resuming soon, almost everyone is diving into entrepreneurship.
Let me share my few skills and the stories behind them.
First: Baking 🎂
After my secondary school education, my mum enrolled me for a baking class ( I wasn't really interested). In the class, we were only three and our teacher was heavily pregnant at the time so we did most experiments buy ourselves but after the class, my brother's girlfriend gave me special baking classes and that helped me a lot.
The first cake I baked before the extra lesson.
After the lesson. (I haven't baked this year and I lost most pictures from last year when my phone got spoilt)
Soap making
After my baking class ended, I was enrolled for soap making classes.
There, I learnt to make bathing gels, liquid soap, bar soap, shampoo, bleach for clothes, perfume, air fresheners, body lotion and versaline. As bonus, we learnt to make ice cream, raw custard and smoothies.
Out of all these, I only make some on social occasions for household use or when I'm teaching kids. I once got a job at a small company where we made and sold these things but I wasn't paid duly and the boss's brother tried having his way with me so I quit.
Sewing
I started learning tailoring late last year from my brother's girlfriend, I sewed my first cloth and was preparing to sew more before I went for an operation (story for another day). After then, I moved to Lagos and my tailoring dream paused.
My first trial at sewing
And with these beautiful skills, I've made money over the years (definitely not as much as I want) but some of the few question on the minds of Nigerian youths are "How to start, where to start, funds to start with, where and how to get consumers"
Before I forget, I'm also into makeup and manicure (self taught).
I've tried starting up something with my skills once but it didn't last maybe it's because of improper management and debts from the customers. Guess I'm not cut out for entrepreneurship or maybe I just need coaching 🤔.
But in all, I'm grateful I got to learn these things when I did.
I Know I'm not the only one going through this, if you've been here, how did you go about it?
Thanks for stopping by 🙃
Hope I didn't bore you 😉
All pictures were taken by me 😌
