This is a 5-minute freewrite in response to the prompt from 1/16/2025 "space ship"
The ship was a 22nd century version of Noah's Arc. Impending disaster necessitated the creation of escape vessels from Earth.
The space ship itself was impressive - a feat of human inginuity and innovation. Humanity faced the alarm of an impending asteroid strike in 2340 and it was on to the races. The asteroid was a massive icy body from the Ort Cloud larger than Hailey's Comet. All efforts to deflect or destroy the asteroid failed, and humanity was left with a few short years to build space ships to avoid their impending doom. The ships were modern day Noah's Arcs that had become the focus of the engineering and productive efforts of all humankind.
The ship moved through the galaxy in search of a world in the Goldilocks Zone that could accommodate life. It's engines still functioned after 200 years adrift and those onboard didn't even know what life on Earth was like. The current astronauts aboard were the great grandchildren of those who filed the dying homeland of their forefathers. Breathing clean air, standing on a beach or summitting a mountain were alien experiences.
The ship silently propelled itself through space. A hopeful humanity inside dreamed of forests, mountains and oceans they had heard of in tales passed down from the generations before.
