The Average Life of Dolapo (a 2nd year Accounting Student)
Dolapo had lectures by 8am but woke up by 8:55 because he stayed up late reading for a test had early in the morning. Prepares as fast as possible (6 mins tops) and dashes to class. Arriving all sweaty and exhausted, he finds out that the lecturer hadn't arrived yet.
In frustration and anger he curses the lecturer in his heart for making him go through all the stress. The lecture was to end by 10:30am but it was already 10:15am and the lecturer was no where to be found. At the moment the class was already half empty and some students (Dolapo included) had lost hope until something shocking happened at the last 3 minutes.
The lecturer, Miss J finally arrived for the class and met the class with only few students and with an angry tone, she shouted lock the door and tear out a sheet of paper. The few students didn't need anyone to tell them what was going on so they speedily did as she said.
Dolapo was so thrilled that he hadn't let the class yet. Miss J then gave a 20 marks test with a one minute duration, they were told to define economics and submit. The time allocated was so small that no one could help their friends who couldn't make it. She collected to the scripts and marched to her office. A few minutes later alot of students hurried to her office to beg for a retake test. Dolapo couldn't care less about the outcome of their plea and went to get ready for the next lecture.
The next lecturer Professor G happened to be the most boring lecturer so the class was scanty and numerous students were deep in sleep while the others were using their phones. The class lasted from 11am till 2pm and those happened to be the longest 3 hours Dolapo had ever experienced. Finally the class came to an end but before it ended the lecturer asked if he could have an extra hour of which the students mumbled and showed great signs of disapproval so he left it for another day. Dolapo was faced with a huge student crisis which was the problem of what to eat. At home food is made available but this is different on campus as there are numerous factors to consider when picking a meal eg quality or quantity, money used, luxury/sweet snacks or proper meals, road side food or home cooked and so on.
At times like this, what Dolapo does is to choose his favorite option which is bread, egg and any soft drink around. After his meal, Dolapo had one class which was from 3pm till 6pm. This was the most despised class because at this point all the students are exhausted and their brains have hit a brick wall and need rest. We have to push through the class of which we retire to our respective lodges to rest. Dolapo's lodge was quite far from his department so he still had a journey ahead of him. After a tiring day in school and with a dead phone battery, the least you would expect is to see light but knowing the country he is in (Nigeria) he didn't have that much hope.
On arrival, he came across his neighbor who was holding an extension and his phone and charger. Dolapo asked what was going on and his neighbor replied that the power holding company came and disconnected their electricity because some lodge members didn't pay their electricity bill. On hearing this, Dolapo reached breaking point. He went in, had his bath and with no electricity, a dead mobile device, exhaustion and hunger he decided to sleep till the next day. Hope you all enjoyed Dolapo's basic day not even his worst day.
