Today, I will recount the inspiring story of my father, who used to work as a goldsmith three years ago since 2010. Born into a khippal lineage, a God-given heritage of goldsmithing, my father’s life has been filled with remarkable experiences.
Recently, I stumbled upon his old weighing machine, a remarkable instrument that enabled him to measure the purity and value of gold and silver with unparalleled precision, which reignited memories of his everyday struggles. It served as a tangible reminder of his dedication and commitment to his work. Its user-friendly interface can easily switch between different units of measurement, such as ounces, and grams depending on the requirements of his clients.
His ancestral lineage as a khippal bestowed upon him a unique talent that had been passed down through generations. Working as a goldsmith was not without its challenges. My father faced numerous obstacles every day, ranging from the physical demands of the customers to the ever-changing market trends. Crafting intricate designs by the craftsmen (karigar) and ensuring the highest quality demanded immense skill, precision, and patience. Moreover, the fluctuating prices of gold and silver posed financial risks that required careful consideration.
Despite the challenges, my father’s passion for his work never wavered. He took immense pride in creating stunning pieces of jewellery that held sentimental value for his customers. The joy and satisfaction he derived from seeing his clients’ faces light up with delight made all the hardships worthwhile.
