He sighed sadly as he reread the letter in his trembling hands. Her words wounded him deeply, like poisoned daggers digging into his heart. How could he explain the truth to her without hurting her more? Everything had changed since she took that job in the city. The long days consumed him, leaving little time for messages and calls. He preferred to keep quiet, isolating himself in his own hell so as not to worry her.
