Her eyes lit up as she took a second glance at the bright screen of her phone and the corners of her mouth turned up.

“What’s making you smile, Maureen?” Her jaw tightened and she groaned as she tried to sit up in bed.

“You should lie down, Lexa,” Maureen’s smile faded as she cautioned her friend, but Lexa was already sitting upright, resting her head on the headboard. She pouted, tilted her head to the side, and shrugged.

“I don’t like that you can’t just stay down. Your head needs to heal so we can take off the bandage. That cut was too deep.”

“I’ll be fine.” She sighed, rubbing the bandage, “that branch got me in a really bad position.”

“You’re never stepping out of the house again when there’s a storm,” Maureen assured and hugged her like she was some extremely fragile shipment.

“Yes ma’am. Now spill the tea that’s got you excited. Is it a new man?” Lexa tried to move her head but grimaced and put it back on the headboard, half smiling.

“Stay put!” Maureen warned. “And I guess the new man is the new rate and green lines I’m seeing in the crypto market.” Maureen gave a lopsided grin as she flashed her screen in Lexa’s face, but Lexa winced and squinted her eyes.

“My bad.” She withdrew the phone immediately and turned down the brightness. “Better now?”

Lexa nodded. “I need to sell my coins.” There was a spark in her eyes. She was excited the market was green again.

“There may be a better rate, Lexa. Will you wait?”

“Nope. I prefer this new rate. Please grab my phone from the nightstand.”

Maureen chuckled as she lazily searched the nightstand for the phone. Her gaze was fixed on Lexa as she teased her with a funny face.

“I hate it that I can’t laugh as hard as I want to right now,” Lexa confessed, and Maureen’s funny expression immediately faded as she said, “Me too.”
