When our choir won the first position in a singing competition, the vicar asked us to make a request of the type of outing activity we want to go on. Many ideas were thrown up, including visiting the zoo or a game reserve, skiing, mountain climbing etc. But when someone suggested cruising in the sea, everyone shouted for joy, and it was adopted unanimously.
The vicar then made arrangement with a yacht club to get us one for our purpose.
Most of us had not seen a yacht before, not to talk of cruising in it. The picture of the yacht was sent for us to take a look at. It was unique, a beauty and a masterpiece of a great designer. You'll feel like living inside it.
The date was fixed, 24th December. We were going to present our carol in the yacht on the sea. Expectations were high. We couldn't wait.
On the 24th December, we were at the shore, singing to high heavens, and waiting for the arrival of our yacht. As the evening set in and darkness was approaching, there was no sign of the yacht.
We called our vicar who radioed the yacht club who replied that our yacht had developed a technical problem on its way but, the technicians were on it.
As darkness finally descended on the plane, we were sure our expectation of singing the carol on the high sea had been dashed. One by one, we started taking our leave, disillusioned.
The yacht eventually arrived in the afternoon of 25th December when we had all gone back home. Only a few people who had no business with the yacht were there to see its arrival.
