"A Year Later"

in #hive-1611552 years ago

Typhoon OdettePh was one of the horrific typhoons that hit the country, particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. How can I forget such a kind of catastrophe? Because for two decades and four years, it was my very first time to witness a strong typhoon where I thought it can only be seen on a television...

Before I go on further, let me introduce myself in this wonderful community. I am volleyren20 and its my first time to share a blog in here. I am hoping for your kind consideration. Peace and good health be with us always!

So, going back to my topic, today marks a year after the typhoon OdettePh left us in vain and with valuable life lessons that surely did changed our lives.

Remembering the scenarios of that calamity still gives me a goosebumps. The trees that surrounding our little barrio, wherever your eyes went through, it feels like its dancing and all of a sudden just passed out. I mean, almost all broke down after the simultaneous strikes of the wind and rains. It was then around 4 pm at that time when we felt that the rain was getting heavier and the wind blows out heavily. The sounds of big drops of the rain in our roof, the thunder and lightning strikes, was just traumatic. Speaking of which, I don't like hearing the sound of thunder.

Comes to the main point of this blog, let me share with you of how's the situation after the typhoon and as of today with through these pictures;

After that disaster, everyone were so devasted. All the means of livelihood were gone in an instant. What's more hurtful was the fact that Christmas was approaching at that time. And to tell you, we didn't have any guts to celebrate it like the year before that typhoon happens. But still, we are very much thankful for we were able to survive and no one in the neighborhood got hurt that day.

On the brighter side of it, we've got to received a lot of help from different people, especially from the Local Government Units and Non-Government Organizations. They provided each of the household a cash assistance and relief goods (e.g. canned goods, rice, and hygiene kits) as for food consumption and for personal care. And as for our means of income, my papa managed to get a lot of contracts as a carpenter ("panday" in our dialect) for the reconstruction of the ruined houses here in our place. As being a "Tuba" (coconut wine) gatherer, he still managed to save few coconut trees where he was able to sell it for a good price at that time.

Despite the fact that we were very much affected by the aftermath brought by that typhoon, it didn't stop us to continue striving for survival. As what it says, "Life must go on." For a year after that incident, we managed to continue life, living with the lessons been given to us.

That ends this blog for today. Spending your time reading this write up is much appreciated!

MAY THE GRACE OF THE LORD BE WITH ALL GOD'S PEOPLE!

Typoon Odette was a truly a nightmare.

You said it right my friend.
