In March 2023, the Ethereum Shanghai Upgrade (EIP-4895) will be launched, allowing for withdrawals of ETH funds that were staked since December 2020.
To prepare for this update, the Merge upgrade which took place on September 15, 2022 transitioned from a Proof-of-Work algorithm to a Proof-of-Stake consensus in order to enhance scalability and reward validators with more ETH. To ensure its success, a public test network will be available for stakers to lock 32 ETH to run validator nodes, which will validate transactions and attest to the block's validity.
This upgrade is seen as a positive step as it will bring greater security, scalability, and liquidity to the Ethereum network.
Despite concerns that this might put selling pressure on ETH, investors believe the Ethereum Shanghai upgrade will make Ethereum a more attractive investment, thus driving the price up in the future.
