One unplanned trip took me to the house of Stevan Sindjelic, and to remind myself of ancient history ... Fights between Serbs and Turks .... And I learned that in school and I forgot a long time ago ....
When we went to the house, it was as if we were back at that time ...
"There is a memorial house of Serbian Duke Stevan Sindjelic in the village of Grabovac.
As a boy of the Resava prince Petar from Gložane, he clashed with the Turks several times, in the Kočina region he was Petrov buljubaša, and he became the prince of Resava in 1804 and was the first to join Karadjordj's invitation with his Resava people. He distinguished himself in the battles with the Turks on Jasenjar, on Ivankovac, near Deligrad.
On the Holy Trinity in 1809, on Čegra near Niš, the insurgents were commanded by Duke Stevan Sinđelić. As many as 70,000 Turks fought against 3,000 Serbs. In the last, most violent attack, the Turks managed to break through the trench of Resava, a terrible massacre ensued, and since help from other trenches did not arrive, and only about a hundred insurgents remained in the trench, Stevan Sindjelic decided to inflict as many losses as possible on the Turks.
The battle near Cerga was done in woodcut.
In an instant, they pulled out a holster and set fire to gunpowder in an underground warehouse. A terrible explosion occurred and the Battle of Chegar remained legendary in Serbian history. About 3,000 Serbs and 10,000 Turks died in it. From the heads of the perished Serbs, the Turks, out of revenge, built the Ćele Tower near Nis, which is the only monument in the world... "
"Thanks to the ethnologist Ružica Rajklović-Sibinović, the entire museum exhibition was completed at that time. A copy of the duke's cradle was even made, modeled on the original, which is in the Nis museum. The complex was opened in 1989."
Parts of the household from that time have been collected in the house.
From this yard, Duke Stevan Sindjelic started his last battle ....
The chapel where they prayed before they went into battle.
My friend likes to be photographed, and wherever we go, I take photos everywhere. Because she loves pictures where she is, or our common ones ..
I don't have a picture of the chapel itself, so here's how to see it with my friend.
The whole complex has been restored and is ready for visitors ...
Basement door .... I peeked 🤭 but now it's just a warehouse for various modern things ..
Nice view of the church from the terrace of the house ....
There is also a well, which was located in almost every house ..
The icon of St. Nicholas guards the house ...
I remembered little history, although this is not a bright spot ... These times were turbulent and the whole of Europe was in battles ....
Still, it's nice to see how life used to be simpler and it didn't take many things to fill the house and the heart ....
I hope you enjoyed this short walk through the Serbian history of a forgotten time ...
