My coding contributions in 2024

in #hive-16352110 days ago

I was curious to check how much I coded in 2024. I can get this data from Github commits. Most of the contributions are to my own projects on Hive. I do have a few projects outside Hive too but still stays on Github. Thought it may not be 100 percent accurate, it can at least give some rough idea. I always thought that I did not code enough compared to what I was doing in 2023. When the year started, I wanted to work on at least one feature per day and do some commit at least once a day similar to how I have been writing articles every single day. This started good but it did not go well.

I had that commitment of doing at least one commit per day in 2023 but in 2024 I couldn't do much. Overall my coding time got reduced I should say. I was also doing a lot of internal coding and didn't do as many commits as I was planning to do. There is also another private account through which I was doing some contributions.

Looking at the above data from Github, one can easily say that I did not do enough commits in 2024 compared to 2023 which is true. I was very busy with my personal life after the kid and at the same time I would say that the contributions were still the same but I did not do as many commits there. Looks like the middle of the year and end of the year are the times I don't do enough commits or I don't do enough work.

People do look at github commit data

Having a nice profile on Github does help a lot. I have received a few offers via email from some random people after looking at my profile. I have not managed to create any fancy profile over there but in spite of that I got some offers. People wanted me to work on their projects. Most of those offers were for a full time job. I was not planning to switch and I did not have enough time to have any additional side hustle, so I did not bother to respond to those emails.

But I'm glad that people are looking at my profile and offering something just from my profile data. This is where I feel that keeping the profile up to date is important andd doing more commits and showing that we are active is important. There is a high chance that people might think that we are no longer active enough and we might miss some opportunities.

Relaxation is important

I have to also admit that 2024 was the year that thought me the importance of reducing my stress levels and also spending more time with family. Especially when the kid happened, I couldn't spend enough time in front of my laptop. Even though I did spend a lot of time coding, I gave more importance to relaxation and stress free working. I reduced the number of projects I was working on and 2025 is going to be year where I would like to focus more on my health. Spoiling my health to accumulate wealth is not a good thing. It will not help in the future. This is a learning that I have in 2025 and I would like to work accordingly.

You are right, stress can silently kill you! And I get you, with a kid the free time reduces drastically expecially first years, barely time for a pee

Health is wealth so therefore we need to do all things possible to safeguard our health as it is of uttermost importance.

It is very difficult to acquire coding knowledge, you have done it. You are also getting job offers, very good. Coding is very expensive

Its actually not that expensive, unless you are messing around with machine learning, ai, graphics and other resource intensive applications you can use a really basic computer and theres tons of free learning resources online. The barrier to entry is very low if psople are willing to learn(which is the hard part).

Please, what is GitHub all about?
