This is a quick two hour ride to Osmena Peak, the tallest peak in Cebu island and my nephew out of the blue decided to go there so we agreed to go there in the morning. The last time he rode a motorbike, six years ago, he ended up in hospital while learning how to ride a 400cc bike so having him ride a small bike was a good thing to build his confidence and also ensure he would not go hectic riding the bike.
Prior to leaving he practiced on the bike he was going to use. A Yamaha semi auto bike, no idea what model it is but he looks like a hulk riding a toy bike LOL.
After half an hour of going round and round he was ok with using it for the next day. We decided after to drink with my friends, not too late because he is pretty lightweight when it comes to drinking, maybe or he just wants to keep himself fresh and also busy texting his girl. LOL.
We woke up semi early and had breakfast and left at 8 AM. I would've wanted to leave earlier but he was still asleep when I came down from my room at 6 AM. He loves his sleep. When we left we were in high and anxious spirits both for the excitement of seeing this peak and having him ride a bike for two hours to the destination.
Let's pause every half hour so I don't fatigue uncle. A smart plan but added to the time to get tot the destination along with the speed we were riding for the first hour at only 30km/hr to get him comfortable riding and also to get the feel of the traffic here. Philippine drivers are crazy, they make their own rules. But that's a story I had written already.
We decided to head to the peak using the west side of Cebu island, going through Moalboal and Badian as there is a road up to the mountain. It is better to find a new path as opposed to go use one that everyone uses, the less travelled road always brings a better surprise.
The roads from Aloguinsan to Barili is something you need to do, my nephew commented this place is paradise, everywhere you look there is a sight to see. I totally agree. Philippines is just paradise and I can see why people just take things slow here. There is really no need to rush since you have to take the time to just smell the flowers or in this case, see the views.
It took us about an hour and a half to get to the entrance of Dumanjog stopping about three to four times along the way to have a drink, stretch an just get some rest on. He was complaining about his butt since he has not had experience riding a motor bike. HAHAHHA I have the same complaint.
By the time we got to Moalboal it was already noon so we stopped for an hour to eat lunch at some random restaurant along the way.
We ate good, actually he ate good since he eats like a gorilla LOL and I just ate enough, that is a good thing since there is no wasted food. We had lechon kawali, spicy chicken wings and fish soup with garlic rice. To wash it down we had watermelon juice which was hella sweet because they drowned it in sugar.
With stomachs full we headed to Badian and quickly found the road turn off towards the mountain path. Cemented. I thought awesome since I was thinking this path will be a dirt path but no it was cemented well too, just narrow. We climbed it cautiously because my nephew is new to riding a bike, he was okay I found out anyway. We reached the peak almost as I was tracking our progress on google maps, then a local comes flagging us down. Landslide ahead and asks us to head down and take the path through Alegria as there is a path through there. I point out another path by Badian but he says our motorbikes will not be able to handle it since it is very steep climb. We had already done three hours of riding so this detour will add another two hours, but we have already come this close so we shrug and say let's do it.
Nek minit!
We arrive at the path which starts out cemented only to end up being all dirt for the next hour and a half. It was a challenge and the best part was these dirt roads were all at the precipices of cliffs. I have to say the valley and peaks we saw along the way were epic but we did not dare take pics since we wanted to get away from the mountain sides that could collapse any time because of the rains. Dodging things along the way and basically going off road with city bikes.
We arrived after the struggle and proceeded to go to where google maps points. Do not follow google maps the point there is wrong. Lucky these locals pointed us to the right path, back to where we came from to begin with. No biggie.
And it was well worth the two hour six hour ride.
A random bottle of water. Only leave your footprints when you visit a place. Pick your rubbish who ever you are.
